       We are living in a decisive moment, marked by a high level of
       fragility and uncertainty in the face of the climate emergency
       and multiple global risks and possible destinations. The
       narrative of stability, national governability and global
       governance created in the last decades by the hegemonic actors
       has collapsed; first with the 2008 crisis and then with the
       covid-19 pandemic. Unpredictability and instability have become
       the norm in the face of the sequence of deep crises (social,
       political, health, geopolitical, economic and ecological) that
       can no longer be faced as before, since they are juxtaposed and
       mutually reinforcing.
       We are going from multiple crises to a civilizational polycrisis
       , that is, to interrelated crises that are causally intertwined
       – they produce greater damage than the sum of what they would
       produce in isolation1– and question the civilizational India

       growth, progress and development. Added to this scenario are the
       strengthening of the extreme right and authoritarianism, the
       erosion of democracy, the digital and technological control of
       life and the strengthening of the culture of war, as suggested
       by the Ecosocial and Intercultural Pact of the South in its
       recent Bogota Declaration2.

       With the development of these trends, in recent years the
       socio-ecological transition has ceased to be a topic restricted
       to groups of activists and scientists to become a central axis
       of contemporary political and economic agendas. However, two
       important issues arise here. First, faced with the urgency of
       decarbonization, there is a tendency to reduce the
       socio-ecological transition –whose comprehensive understanding
       should cover the energy, production, food and urban levels– to
       the energy transition3. The second question is associated with
       the way in which the energy transition is carried out and who
       will pay the costs.
