       "You can fix ignorant
       … you can't fix stupid"
Ignorant is what we were a decade ago. This was something new.
This had never been encountered. Yes, we've come to find it is
from a family of disease we were familiar with but … it's a
highly mutated strain. Until August of 2010 this was a complete
unknown. That is ignorance and that's ok. How we became
infected was stupidity and that's not ok. The first case we can
document and prove? A chef for a reality tv show was attempting
to create a new dish and decided to go after the exotic, eye
catching dish. Giant yellow centipede sounds delicious don't it?
It's the stuff nightmares are made of but this chef decides to
import a bunch of them and get to work making a dish with the
centipede as the star. They tried everything to include eating
       pieces of it RAW …
       … STUPID.
Eating raw animals, insects, etc is a hazard in of itself. It's
especially hazardous when you're talking about something with no
       documented record as a food
       … STUPID
Come to find the chef never did any real research on the
centipede and wasn't aware of basic facts that ANYONE could find
       on Wikipedia!
       … STUPID
When this new strain of (bat flu) exploded we simply weren't
capable of dealing with it because up to that point bat flu
wasn't able to infect humans. Something in that centipede
carried that bat flu virus, changed it (reassortment) to the
point it was able to infect that chef … because it was also
apparently able to carry the human flu virus. It was a giant
mutation making factory to put it plainly.
