Shard shop currency: GW or Ally points?

Stumbled across an interesting article

posted on reddit, stating that to get shards in the shard shop,
it might be better to actually spend your GW currency on ally
points and open packs. I read alot of comments and it seems
like, in general the odds are slightly lower for getting shards
then if you bought them outright, however on the flip side you
are giving yourself chances for good gear (rare as that might
be).
Thoughts?

I'm saving 20,000 GW for when the new movie comes out, as I
expect two new toons in GW.
This will take a couple weeks ... in the meantime, when I get to
100,000 Ally Points, I'll spend 50,000, and record the results
of the 200 drops. Do enough of these, and I'll know which way
to spend for shards for the shard shop.

then im done with GW toons and ill start saving as well

A week old thread on the forum has collated thousands of pulls,
and confirmed that the best course for extra GW tokens is to
spend them for Ally Points. This not only, on average,
generates more shards for the shard shop, but a small chance of
additional useful purple and blue gear.
So once you have all the GW toons you want at 7*, and you've
saved all you want in case they launch more for Rogue One, any
extra GW tokens should be used to by Ally Points.

of mine for the ships update (in case they put ships in as well)
but after that is done, ill be pumping it into ally points :)

I concur with this article, I spent a full week using up all of
my GW point for ally points. Not only did I get a lot of needed
shards, I got some purples and even got Shard shop currency with
it all. IT is definitely the way to go to get shard shop
currency.

Ships are going to use all your GW tokens ... so nice theory,
but obsolete in a couple days.
