First Years

Welcome to Wizarding Geography lessons! I am your Professor,
Crimara Castillo. You may call me what you wish, such as Crim or
Crimi. ;) I hope you enjoy this class. Please read the welcome
if you have not already done so. It has your textbooks.
Lesson 1: First, you must realize that the Wizarding World is
not a completely seperate world but one that is parallel to the
Muggle world. For example, Diagon Alley is in the middle of
London. The only difference is that Muggles cannot see and do
not know about the Wizarding World.
For homework, please tell me the name of the one all-wizard
community in England. Tell me the two exceptions to the Muggle
Secrecy Rule. Then, give me one example of a village where
wizards and witches live alongside muggles and some of the
families that live there. In what ways, does the Wizarding
community hide their world? Please give me a little more for
this question.

Lesson 2: There are two parallels that I want to talk to you
about. These parallels are transportation and schoolwork. As I'm
sure some of you know, the subjects that are taught in the
Wizarding World are not the same as the Muggle subjects.
Transportation can be the same but the main magical forms of
transportation are not the same. For all the things that I list
below, I want you to tell me what you think is the Muggle
equilavent of the item. If not an equilavent, then a
modification. Briefly, defend your answers. If you don't believe
that there is an equal, tell me why.
1. Flying car
2. Flying carpets (Which are illegal, except for the Middle
East)
3. Arithmancy
4. Wizarding Geography
5. Herbology
6. Appariation
7. Floo Network
8. Potions
9. Portkey
10. Charms
11. Broomsticks
12. Care of Magical Creatures
13. OWLs and NEWTs

Now, you understand some of the parallels between the Muggle and
Wizarding World. Let's continue on.
Lesson 3: Though, there is some parallel in this lesson. It also
leans more toward the Wizarding World. In your textbooks, it
mentions that not all wizarding countries may have the same
borders as their Muggle counterparts. For homework, I want you
to tell me the examples they give for this. The second thing I
want you to do is tell me what you believe the borders are for
the developed nations of the world.

Lesson 4: You guys did so well with the boundaries. Today, I
want to talk about the different magical schools. There are
actually more schools than just the three schools that
participated in the Triwizard Tournament, Hogwarts, Beauxbatons,
and Durmstrang. These schools possibly take students from more
than one country. For example, it is possible that Durmstrang
takes students from Bulgaria and Russia. For homework, I want
you to briefly describe Beauxbatons and Durmstrang. Be sure to
tell me what their names mean. Tell me the names of the other
schools. Lastly, use your homework from last week and tell me
how many schools do you think there would be for those places.
Bonus: Where do you think Durmstrang is located? (Remember, it
is meant to be in the North!)

Lesson 5: For the last lesson before the exam, I want you look
over what you know about the only full-Wizard community in
Britain, Hogsmeade. It is the only place where no Muggles
reside. Of course, that's a good thing since Hogwarts Express
stops there and it's so close to Hogwarts. For homework, I want
you to write at least 75 words on what you know about Hogsmeade.

Lesson 6: For your exam, I want you to choose any of the schools
(even the minor ones) and explain why you would attend there.
From what countries are the students from? How do you get to the
school? If you choose one of the minor schools, describe the
school to me.
