History: Not much is known about Jeffery until after he took his
first head in 1620 and the Watcher of the Immortal he killed
heard him tell the Immortal just before he took his head that he
was his 36[sup]th[/sup] birthday present. Unfortunately there
was a major shortage of Watchers during that time period and no
one was assigned to him until the mid 1800s so much of his
history is missing.
In 1826 he was finally assigned a Watcher. He had earned quite
a reputation as one of the U.S.'s top bounty hunters and from
1826 until 1912 he hunted down and caught 1204 wanted criminals,
brought 724 in to stand trial and delivered his own justice to
the remaining 480. It would have been 1205 but in 1884 he
tracked a highly desired train robber/rapist/murderer with a
“deliver alive” reward of $5000 to a cabin in the mountains that
surrounded a small town in the state of Washington. He arrived
at the cabin his fugitive was said to be temporarily residing in
just in time to see his fugitive lose his head to the town's
female sheriff. Until that moment he had had no idea that the
criminal he was chasing for almost 2 years was an Immortal. He
had made plans to use the large reward to retire, settle down
with the woman he loved at the time and become a farmer or
rancher. The loss of the money meant he would lose the woman he
had planned to settle down with because she wouldn't wait the
length of time it would take him to make up the money at the
average bounty of $150 a head....therefore it meant the end of
his dream....and that pissed him off. He confronted the female
Immortal and was about to take her head purely out of spite when
they were interrupted by her deputy and several men from the
town who had formed a posse to come to her aid (even though she
hadn't needed it). He rode off but not before vowing that their
paths would cross again someday and he would “collect” the debt
he felt she owed him when they did.
The Watcher assigned to Kerby in 1912 died of small pox and
there was, once again, a shortage of Watchers so by the time one
was assigned to him Kerby had dropped out of sight. He was
seen by other Watchers from time to time when he would take
their assignments' heads but nothing more about him was recorded
until 1927 when he joined a group of U.S. Treasury agents called
the Untouchables, led by Elliott Ness, assigned to bringing down
mob boss Al Capone. He was, once again, assigned a Watcher.
In 1931, when the Untouchables were disbanded, Kerby
transferred to the U.S. Marshal's office and hunted down Federal
fugitives until he was shot and killed in 1952 and dropped out
of sight.
Kerby resurfaced in 1968 but not long enough to be assigned
another Watcher.
In 1974 he resurfaced long enough to take an Immortal's head
but disappeared immediately following the Quickening and wasn't
heard of again until he, once again, became a free lance bounty
hunter in 1986.
In 1990 Kerby opened a Skip Recovery agency that consisted of
himself and two other men in Dallas, Texas but in 2009 the
Nation's economy took its toll on the business and he had to
close his doors. However, he kept his license and continued to
hunt down the criminals that the local law enforcement agencies
couldn't.
