Herricks Highlander November Article: Music Student of the Month
       Rebecca Schiffman
Every month a student who shows excellence and improvement in
each subject is rewarded the honor of being Student of the
Month. Relating to music, this great honor was given to a most
       deserving student; Christine Bunyon.
A loyal member of concert band, Christine was placed in Wind
Ensemble just this year. She has also been accepted into the
Blue Jazz Band this year as well. Christine began her music
career playing the French horn, later switching to the trumpet.
She has played in NYSSMA for many years and has always received
       high markings.
Despite her obvious need to take a music class in middle
school, Christine began to love her band classes, taking on new
adventures such as the Orchestra Pit Band for shows in middle
school and later on, becoming a regular at Pep Band games and
High School Pit Band. When speaking of band, Christine says that
it is her most favorite period of the day because it is like a
break from all the homework, teachers, and essays.
Christine’s love for the trumpet began when she listened to
what the instrument sounded like. Listening to trumpet solos and
concert songs, her favorite part was the trumpet solo at the
end; she describes it as “trumpet heaven”. When asked if she
will continue with the trumpet through college and beyond, she
answered, “I definitely want to play in college. I am even
thinking in minoring in some music related field.” And although
she may not become a professional musician, the trumpet and
music will always be a favorite in her heart.
