On July 15, 2012, Korean Rapper PSY released his single “Gangnam
Style.” With the blink of an eye, Gangnam style went viral and
topped music charts around the world. Numerous parodies and
imitations of Gangnam Style have since inundated the web.
Celebrities, including Brittney Spears and Ellen DeGeneres, have
eagerly taken part in this new craze. From Gangnam style flash
mobs on college campuses to impersonations of political figures,
PSY's influence and recent fame is incontrovertible. His recent
concert in Seoul, South Korea attracted 80,000 fans. The music
video for this song has already acquired 531,984,265 (and
counting) views. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon has even
gone so far as to declare Gangnam Style as a "force for world
peace."
