iPhone 5 - Is It Worth It?
       Leonardo Cokro ‘16
On September 21st, Sydney’s Apple store opened its doors to
welcome its customers to purchase the new iPhone 5. Phillip
Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president, introduced the iPhone 5
by releasing the statement, “We’ve packed an amazing amount of
innovation and advanced technology into a thin and light,
jewel-like device with a stunning 4-inch Retina display, blazing
fast A6 chip, ultrafast wireless, even longer battery life; and
we think customers are going to love it.” Apple has gone through
a limb just to make this new smartphone more modern and
appealing to consumers. As a result of this backbreaking work,
the new iPhone has landed the number one spot in C-Net’s Best
       Smartphones.

Starting off with its physical features, the iPhone 5 has
improved vastly from its predecessor, the 4S. This latest
version of the iPhone is noticeably lighter, yet wider at the
same time. The headphone jack has also moved to the bottom of
the iPhone for convenience purposes. Another notable feature of
this device is that the charger port has now been reverted to
the Lightning Port, a recent and efficient charger starting at
an average cost of $30. The last noticeable change to this new
smart phone is its durability. Now, the iPhone requires a much
greater beating before it starts to show any signs of damage. As
a result of all these changes, the iPhone 5 manages to keep up
with trends without sacrificing its efficiency or physical
       appearance.
Moving on to its technological features, the iPhone 5 merges the
A6 processor and LTE to create faster internet speeds and
downloads. If you do not have the Apple iO6, you will find the
Wi-Fi speed to be pretty decent. The iPhone 5 camera was
recently reviewed by some expert photographers who said, “The
iPhone 5 is a fine mobile device, with an excellent camera. In
qualitative terms it's not the best camera out there, and nor is
it the best camera on a smartphone (the Nokia 808 has that
honor, for now) but it offers satisfying image quality, some
neat functions like auto panorama and HDR mode, and - crucially
       - it is supremely easy to use.” The camera may not be the best,
but it is fitting enough to use in non-professional,
       photograph-worthy situations.
The features of this smart phone have maintained satisfactory
conditions, but also contain some glitches that need to be
worked out. For example, most people who have used the updated
Apple Maps have encountered many problems. As a result, Apple
recently released an official statement asking owners of the
phone to use Google Maps instead.
Overall, the iPhone 5 displays well-worked months of development
through its efficient and improved qualities. If you do not own
the iPhone 4S or you just want to upgrade to the best, this may
be the smart phone for you. However, the iPhone 5 will cost you
between $200 and $1000, so think twice before you grab a hammer
       for your piggy bank.
