       2013 Spring Musical: “How to Succeed in Business Without Really 
       Trying”

       Since Herricks High School opened in 1958, it’s been
       creating many successful theater performances on a high school
       level. With a successful music department and a talented student
       body, no wonder why Herricks’ musicals have always been on top.
       This year, the school is performing “How to Succeed in Business
       Without Really Trying,” a comedy taking place in the 1960's
       about a window washer named J. Pierrepont Finch trying to
       succeed in business as quickly as he can. Along his journey in
       the business world, he falls in love with a secretary named
       Rosemary Pilkington, deals with the president of the company and
       his nephew, and he works in nearly every department the company
       has. Even though making it up the business chain to the top will
       take years to do, it's fun to see someone doing it in a week.
       The premiere of the musical will be on March 8th and 9th at 7:30
       pm and on the 10th at 2 pm.
       This show is a MUSICAL so there is SINGING, DANCING,
       ACTING, and INSTRUMENTS! Even if you are not a big fan of
       musicals, it's worth a look. The songs are all upbeat and have a
       message that's easily shown by the characters. Some of the songs
       that the cast has been working on are "Coffee Break,"
       "Brotherhood of Man," and "A Secretary is Not a Toy." These
       songs are laugh out loud funny and warm up your heart when the
       music stops. Even Daniel Radcliffe from the Harry Potter movies
       knows these songs considering he played Finch in the Broadway
       revival last year.
       What makes a good production is a dedicated,
       hardworking cast with the help of the director Mrs. Latham, the
       vocal coach Mrs. Brand, and our choreographer Ms. Zinvy. They
       have worked extremely hard to make the show as perfect as it can
       be. Alison Varghese ('15) had many positive things to say about
       the show. "The cast has put so much hard work to making this
       show great. This means long hours of learning dances and songs."
       It takes a lot of time to make the songs and dances great and
       memorable for the viewers. Alex Ramos ('13) also had wonderful
       things to say about the experience, "The musical this year is
       really good. We have a really talented cast and everyone gets
       along. It's a must see!" Sabrina Kalman ('14) plays the
       attractive yet dim-witted Hedy LaRue. She probably plays the
       most unique character in the production. She recently said,
       "I've been in these shows since freshmen year and it's been a
       lot of fun being Hedy. Something I like most about the show is
       that the cast gets along and the people are starting to become
       really close to one another."
       As a member of the cast, it's been a fun ride. It's a really
       exciting show with lots of humor and catchy music. It's a must
       see; I'm not bluffing. The cast has put so many hours into
       making this show better than people expect and the students and
       staff should come back to the high school and see this one heck
       of a masterpiece.
