Giants Release Running Back Ahmad Bradshaw

It’s a tough time for Giants Nation, as the New York Giants
announced the release of starting running back Ahmad Bradshaw
this past week. In 2007, the team drafted Bradshaw in the
seventh round as the 250th pick. From overlooked player to star
running back, he helped lead the Giants to two Super Bowl
Championships in the six years he spent with them. The
toughness, hard work, and effort he put in, week in and week out
gained the admiration of teammates and coaches, alike. He would
often play through injuries, including a nagging foot problem
this past year, but it was never an excuse for bad play.
During his tenure with the Giants, he was known for gaining
every last inch possible when running and giving a hundred
percent effort on each and every play. In addition to being a
huge contributor on the field, Bradshaw was one of the leaders
in the Giant’s clubhouse. He never allowed his teammates to not
play a down and demanded the very best out of every player.
Bradshaw’s intensity may have gotten him into a few verbal
fights with head coach Tom Coughlin during his time with the
Giants, but it was because he cared about winning more than
anything else.
Coughlin had nothing but good words for Bradshaw. In a statement
issued following Bradshaw’s release, Coughlin praised Bradshaw
for his work ethic and production, noting how far he had come
from being drafted in the last round. General manager Jerry
Reese called him “a true Giant.” Both the organization and
Bradshaw parted ways on good terms, and have not ruled out a
possible reconciliation in the future. The NFL is a business,
and players are frequently traded and cut, but there’s no doubt
that the kid drafted with the 250th pick in 2007 will be a Giant
for life.
