Eating when I feel anxious or overwhelmed

This was a biggie for me. And as soon as I sank my teeth into a
chocolate biscuit, a feeling of relief poured in, and I could
momentarily escape the discomfort of feeling anxious. Now I try
to stay with the anxiety instead of abandoning myself to food.
I'm more aware now, and 'sit with' the anxiety. I'm usually
anxious about really small tasks such as sending an email,
phoning someone. I find it can help to remind myself that "I can
cope and I am a competent adult". Do you eat when you're
       anxious?

I keep procrastinating and putting things off, only little
things, as you also say. But I find then that I just eat and
pick and everything ends up being done in the last 10 minutes. I
think I get a bit overwhelmed by all I have to do. Or sometimes
I feel like I have no support to do everything. Always trying to
keep on top of everything. Need to figure out this one more... J

I've just realised over the last few days of doing this
programme, that I definitely eat a whole bunch more when I am
anxious or fee overwhelmed. I didn't realise this before.

Any tips for coping when you feel overwhelmed or stressed, so
you don't end up turning to food as often?
Here something I try: I remind myself that it's ok and normal to
feel overwhelmed and that I don't have to be in control of
everything. I once heard that we only have control over 15% of
what happens in our lives! :o Once I accept that I simply
cannot be in control always, I'm less likely to fight it and
       start eating!

I'm beginning to see that too, as Naz said. I eat when I feel
overwhelmed or stressed. Even the smallest thing can set me off.
Like an unexpected bill in the post. I need to figure this one
       out.

One thing I have figured out that helps me when I feel
overwhelmed is to start saying 'no' to people. I do too much for
others, and end up with loads on my plate (excuse the pub). For
example, instead of agreeing to mind my sister's 2 kids while
she goes clothes shopping, I simply told her that I've too much
on today. I been practising it more lately, and it's definitely
       helping.
