       All-or-Nothing?

Do you have a black-and-white mentality around eating? "I've
eaten a few biscuits, I've messed up. I might as well keep
       eating?"
You're either in control or out of control. Finding a middle
ground is crucial. This means drawing a line under unwanted
eating, and moving on, instead of continuing the unwanted
eating. How's that going for you?

For me it very much depends on what I've eaten . Sugary
foods/baked goods seem to stimulate a binge (though not in the
quantities it used to) I never seem to be able to stop at just
one.. so it's easier to avoid them altogether.

Yes, I definitely find too that sugary foods can lead to a
binge, and it's so hard to stop after 1 or 2 or 3 biscuits! I
know that sugary food can have a really strong pull for me, and
that's the effect of the sugar. But I also think that because I
have this idea that sugary/high-fat food is 'bad' that I crave
       more then.
Believing it's 'bad' and that I shouldn't be eating it makes me
want more of it, and I feel I can't be trusted with food like
       that.

Yes I certainly understand the sugary food pull. I sometimes
feel like a raving cookie monster and all I want to eat is
cookies and cake and chocolate. just one bite and I feel like
I've blown my diet so I may as well binge... not good!

Yes, it can definitely make you feel like a monster because you
want to eat everything that's not nailed down! That feeling of
being out of control, of almost being wild around food. It's
definitely not a good place to be.
I met a lady during the week who mentioned that when she having
an 'eat all around you day' she's started interrupting the
eating and is now drawing a line under it sooner, instead of
letting the eating go on and on. Instead of beating herself up
and feeling guilty, she's drawing a line under it and moving on.
She also mentioned that she's noticed her sister continues
eating and goes though all the 'stages'- guilt, shame, and then
eats some more. To even try drawing that line once this week!

I'm definitely in the all-or-nothing category. I've started to
see that I'm like that in work too. If it's not perfect it's
just not good enough-same with my eating. I need to think about
being in charge instead of in control.

Hi Hannah, I don't get the difference between being in charge
and in control of eating and food! How does that work for you??

If I think I need to be in control around food, I'll be really
good for a while, but then I'll sooner or later I'll always end
up eating too much, and then thinking "What's the point, might
as well keep eating". Then I just feel out of control around
food, and it's awful. Being in control and out of control are
such extremes. So I'm thining about just being in charge and
making more mindful decisions around food. It's waayy more
       balanced for me!

Thanks Hannah. Yeah, that makes sense all right. Just because I
spilt a few drop of juice on a white shirt doesn't mean that
it's ruined- I try to remind myself of that. There have been a
few times this week when I've stopped after a few biscuits, and
just left them. A big deal for me! The all-or-nothing can be
       really hard.
