money on tournaments

What is the max amount of money you should spend on tournaments?
I spent 80 bucks and came rank 15 did not get a new 5star
monster

It really depends on how much you really want a card... how good
your deck is already... for instance, I spent about $25 worth of
resources to come in 2nd place and win Necro Ogretron. $15 of
that was Energy Drinks and $10 of that was Restore Potions...
but I had a 95% win rate in the process

As StNick said, you landing a top spot without spending much
depends on your deck now, and if you can constantly win reliably
during a tourney.
It also depends on what resources you currently have at that
moment, and how much more you can get.
Buffs can make or break your deck, don't forget to level them to
high levels (Spirit, Aura, and Speed. If you have the right
cards, then also Spirit+, Aura+, and Speed+.)
If you see a person at the top you can easily win against every
attack, don't hesitate to constantly attack them (As I did with
you).
The Bonus Time is so vital to your success, use every possible
minute of it if you can. Especially the last hour
Make sure about what deck you're using. Are you using an all-out
offense deck (High speed and attack, rush the enemy before they
defeat you), a balanced deck (Good HP, attack and speed, can use
just about anything) or a defensive deck (High HP and good
attack, with Auras, Shields and healers to shrug off enemy
attacks)
Energy Drinks matter. Use them when you need them most. (I
suggest your last battles during the closing minutes)
I only needed to spend $10 on x10 BP potions and x6 Energy
Drinks, as I had plenty of resources, a decent deck (focused
offense) and focused time for the Bonus.
