       Twin Burdens
By: Eilik Date: July 25, 2013, 7:55 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
The dark passage, the smell of charred wood and stone still hung
in the air, even after five years.
It hadn't been rebuilt yet, noone wanted to go near it in fact.
It held a bad omen for most people.
The last queen had blown up the place, knowing that the throne
had to be filled. She and her King had
damned the world, at least they thought. Though it was still
guarded at times, made sure that noone
wandered in and got hurt from the debris. Black ears twitch as
a rather skinny boy peers around, his
eyes scanning the dark passage, a blue and green orb shining in
the low light. A light sigh escapes
his lips as his tails flick, the boy's a kitsune, and trying to
be very sneaky, carefully making sure
he doesn't step on any debris, he's not really supposed to be
       here and he knows it.
Mild rattling can be heard as he moves, a chain is wrapped
around his waist as a multi-layered belt,
though a blade shines in the dim light. He continues down the
broken hall before stopping as he holds
his breath. An old lady stands in the old throne room, only a
singular wall still stands as she peers
around at the broken and aged castle. She appears to be sad,
maybe a little scared though she doesn't
show it. The boy lowers himself into a crouch, lowering his
visability. He holds his breath, waiting,
sweat dripping before finally the woman turns, slowly making her
       way out of the building.
He smirks a bit, carefully stepping over things, clambering on
top of a pillar that had fallen as he
looks around. Something catches his eye, a wall, broken, showing
a now-exposed closet. He tilts his
head, one ear laying back before he hops from his perch to
investigate. Quickly making his way over
to the rubble, he sees the material more clearly, a bear. His
brow furrows as he crouches down,
shifting through the debris a bit as he fishes it out, the bear
survived mostly intact, though one of
its arms had been ripped off and was now hanging by its side by
a thin strip of cloth. The kitsune
peers around, it had been a while since he had seen one of these
things. He stares at it for a moment
before blinking, a glinting caught his eye. snatching up the
object he holds up the blade, eyebrow
raised, a dagger, finely ornate, initials engraved upon the
       hilt: V. S.
There is a skitter upon the stone floor as his ears perk, he
peers around before slipping the dagger
into his belt and tucking the bear under his arm. He stands
before his eyes catch sight of a white
blur coming at him. His gaze goes wide before the form grows and
he falls flat on his back with a
       collision to his chest.
"Guess what Tyrr!?" The girl exclaims as she sits on her
brother, white hair spiked out behind her
head, only held back by a headband. She wore a wanged smile and
white ears sat upon her head. Her
eyes were also blue and green, though the colors were on the
oppositte eyes than her brother's. She
bounces a bit before pushing herself off, resulting in an 'oof'
from the boy. "The place is empty!
It's like a ghost castle, you remember those stories our mother
used to tell us!?" She grins, her
expression always so cheerful. Pushing himself up on his elbows
the boy stares at her long and hard,
nose turned up slightly, the bear now laying next to him on the
       ground.
"Of course you do! Though, you were always the sca-... Tyrr!
Why're you playing with toys? You know
we had to get rid of Kai for a reason, you just got too old for
       that stuffed rabbit. You're sixteen
for hell's sake." The boy looks away swiftly, cheeks turning a
tinge of crimson under his mask before
he sweeps up the bear and shoves it in his bag, "Nyrr..." He
mutters out. The girl smirks, placing
her hands on her hips, the scabbard of her katana clanking a bit
on her back. "Oh cmon Tyrr, don't be
like that, you know I'm just teasing."
Clanking could be heard, as suddenly voices could be heard
coming from outside. Two guards rush in, pole-arms in
hand, wearing armor. "Halt! You two can't be in here, stupid
scavengers." The girl blinks as one of
them grabs her arm, "We're taking you two in, on grounds of
trespassing." The girl grunts as her arm
is squeezed though she digs her heels in. "I wouldn't do that if
I were you." Tyrr sighs, pushing
himself to his feet, "Nyrr, can we not just allow them to take
us and escape later?" He mutters
almost as quiet as a whisper. The girl grins a fanged grin, "You
picked last time Tyrr." The boy
huffs in defeat, letting his arms fall to his side, he knew what
       was coming.
The guard would pull on her, "If you do not come willingly we
will incapacitate you both. The other
man would round, keeping an eye on the boy before grabbing him
on the shoulder. Time seemed to stand
still for a moment, as suddenly the girl's katana was out of its
sheathe. She leapt up, performing a
backward flip as her foot collided with the bottom of the first
guard's helmet, a loud clang as he
let go of her arm, recoiling back, blinking the stars from his
eyes as she landed, flipping the sword
       in her hand.
The boy simply grabbed the weighted end of the chain around his
       waist, pulling roughly, the momentum
of the blade escaping the coil caused it to sink into the second
       guard's breastplate. "No killing."
He commanded, in a stern tone. Nyrr grumbled, "Fine." She
sidesteps as the boy, swung his body to one
side, clutching the chain, he would twist at the last second,
blade coming loose as the guard he had
hooked would go flying into the other. He spun his right arm
quickly as the chain wrapped around it
before bolting. Nyrr lets out a mild giggle, chasing after him,
the two guards colliding and griping
as they struggled to untangle themselves.
Tyrr fishes a small flute from his belt, lifting it to his lips
he plays a single note, a cloud of
darkness settling over the castle and the village outside as the
two made their escape. The village
went in high-alert as the darkness fell, though it took less
than ten minutes for the two to get well
       on their way.
On the outskirts the two sit as the village still looks for the
two trespassers, a fire crackling to
life as Nyrr prods at a wood pile with a stick. The boy digs the
bear from his pack, peering at it
with a bit of sadness. As far as he knew a child had been caught
in the fire. Somehow this had
survived. His sister looks at him, before tossing a loaf of
bread to him, which he swiftly caught,
blinking at her. "We're continuing tomorrow, can't be in a place
for too long. You know those people
will be after us." He furrows his brow, "We were just
       trespassing."
"Not those people you dolt! You remember." She shakes her head,
tearing a piece of bread from the
loaf she held. He smirks, peering into the fire. "I know,
figured I could play stupid a bit." Nyrr
peers into the fire for a moment, her eyes seeming more vivid
than they actually were, "Tyrr, you
know you could leave, I mean it was my fault." The
charcoal-colored kitsune pulls down his mask,
giving her a warm smile, "Sis, we share many things. Least I
could do for something like that is
       share blame."

By: Eilik Date: July 26, 2013, 4:00 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
It was a nice autumn day, the red forest lived true to its names
as the lands trees shone brightly with the autumn colors. The
weather was warm, it was sunny, the village thrived as the
people around moved upon their business. A strange song emanated
from the village square, there one would find a boy, dressed in
a light blue kimono, sitting upon the stone road. He looks no
older than eight, a flute raised to his lips as he plays the
       rather upbeat song.
Footsteps patter in front of him, wooden sandals hitting upon
stone as a girl, the same age, dressed in a white kimono with
red embroidery spun around in an elegant dance. She had a smile
upon her face, her white hair neatly pinned up. A few passerbies
would stop, occasionally tossing a coin or two in the hat they
haad laid out. The boy smiles slightly as he plays, tapping his
own sandalled foot along to the music. The girl kept spinning,
only stoppong when a hand grabbed her upper left arm and she
       jerked to a stop.
"You two, how many times do I need to tell you? You're not
allowed to loiter here." An old man spat, he seemed rather well
dressed, and was in fact the mayor of the little town. The girl
blinked, pursing her lips before muttering, "Sorry Mister
Jukei... We're just trying to save up money."
"I know what you two are doing, but why can't you do it like the
rest of us and work the fields or something? That noise is a
racket!" The boy had stopped playing but was sitting there
staring at the man dully, he looked almost as if he was about to
cry, always the sensitive one. A woman walks up, dressed finely,
a pair of spectacles sat upon her nose, connected to a chain
that hung around the back of her neck. She stood up straight, a
notebook tucked under an arm, "Excuse me, Jukei, that's not a
racket, these two are rather talented. Why can't you see that?"
The boy would blink, face going red as he heard the soft voice
speak up, he tries to bury his face into his knees as the old
man releases the girl's arm. The girl's white ears laid back as
she hid behind the woman, who held out her free arm to pat her
       on the head.
"It disturbs business, the market is not a place for children!"
He spits, huffing, waving his cane in the air. The woman blinks,
tilting her head a bit, "I see no disruption, in fact I hear
nothing but good things from the stallworkers. A lot of them
tend to enjoy the show." The man grumbles, turning around as he
leaves, "I don't want to catch them out here again!"
The girl peers up at the woman as the boy pushes himself up,
grabbing the hat he holds it up, "Sensei, we told you we'd pay
for some things for taking us in!" He beams up at her, the woman
blinks, peering into the hat before widening her eyes. "Nyrr!
Tyrr! What'd I tell you about begging for money? I can handle
the issues for money at home by myself." The girl frowns, "But
Sensei, we wanted to help. And we didn't beg! tyr played his
flute, and I danced!" Tyrr nods excitedly, pushing the hat
towards her, the woman sighs before taking it. "Fine, but this
money is only being used for you two, and I'll make something
special for supper in celebration, how about that?" The girl
rushes by her brothers side as they both beam up at her, "Hai!"
The girl rushes off, skipping off towards where they lived, the
       boy chasing after.
It was dark, a few hours had passed since the argument with the
mayor and the boy had needed a nap. He raises from his mattress
that lay upon the ground in his sister's and his room. Yawning
the young boy rubs at his eyes, clutching a stuffed white rabbit
he walks through the small house, his sister had decided to help
sensei with the food. His bare feet thumped against the straw
mats that lined the floor of the house as he made his way toward
the kitchen, though he froze as he reached the doorway.
Blood had sprayed up the back wall, there seemed to be a crying
emanating from it, the boy could see legs from behind the
counter. He sniffles, shaking, as his eyes go wide as he rounds
the corner. The woman lay on the ground, eyes open, blood
running from her open mouth as a knife was embedded in her
stomach. Nyrr was on her knees, sobbing next to her, bloodied
arms shaking her shoulder, "Sensei! Sensei! It was an accident!"
She cried before there was a scream.
Panting as Tyrr shot up from laying down, a cold sweat causing
his clothes and hair to stick to his skin, his eyes watered as
he had been nearly crying. He pants, sitting up on the mat he
had laid in the grass, running a hand through his hair. The
amber glow from the fire shone on his sister who was still
sitting up, staring into the fire. She hardly slept anymore,
even when it was time for him to keep guard. She peers over,
worried eyes resting on him. "The nightmare again?" He nods,
rubbing the tears from his eyes before she pushed herself up.
Walking over to him she crouches down before wrapping arms
around her brother, he returns the hug as they sit there.
Memories hurt, and that was part of the reason why they ran. but
there was more. More that the both of them ran from. Tyrr's eyes
rest on the circle engraved in scar tissue ont he back of his
right hand, hoping that they'd escape one day.

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Ruins litter the forest as a pair of figures scavenge around the
foor of a temple, the sun was setting, the place getting dark as
growls could be heard from the darkness. A girl and boy,
shuffling through debris, trying to hurry before the night fell.
The gorlws tended to be nothing, just the wind passing through
the ruins, but it scared them. They were ten years old now, a
few years after the incident. The girl peers around, ears perked
       up.
"Tyrr, find anything useful?" She calls out, the boy would stand
from bending over, clutching a stuffed white rabbit, shaking his
head. he hadn't said much since a few years ago, he didn't act
like he used to and she knew it. Nyrr was just glad he hadn't
abandoned her. She sighs, peering into the dark entrance as her
brother came up to her, clutching her arm as he almost always
had began to stick to her side. She peers over at him, blue and
green eyes studying him for a moment. He looked dirty as usual,
they had been forced to live on the streets since then, getting
dirty looks, always having to live with the rumors of them being
       little murderers.
"I want to check out the inside." Tyrr nods as she steps forward
into the darkness, making sure he follows close beside her. They
descend down the stares, eyes adjusting to the low light.
torches line the wall along the clearly ancient temple. The two
peer around wondrously, carvings line the walls. Depicting
demons and emperors fighting off said demons. Nyrr grins, almost
not being able to control herself at this point. they sure were
going to find something! And then they could sell it back at the
       village.
The stairs eventually lead to a large antechamber. The two
dwarfed by tower-sized columns. Continuing to walk Tyrr hugs
closer to his sister, peering around, actually slightly scared.
The walk is long, the room is incredibly large, and it seems
untouched by the years. A large torch sits on each pillar as the
two keep walking, silently glowing in the darkness. About an
hour passes before the two blink, seeing the end of the room.
Tyrr breaks away from his sister only to break off into a bolt.
The room ends in two altars, something sits in an etching in
       each.
The girl breaks into a sprint after her brother, only sliding to
a stop as each of them stand in front of the two altars. They
peer to each other, wide-eyed, in front of them lay two weapons
in sheathes, they were resting in holes cut into the stone
altars specifically for their shapes. "We may be able to afford
food for a year with these!" Nyrr exclaims as they walk up to
them. The boy nods, a grin on his face as they reach for each of
them. The girl grabs the handle of the katana, inspecting the
ornamental sheathe, it was a fine made, red and blue oriental
clouds adorn the fine cloth that covers the wooden holster. The
raven-haired boy wold pick up the kusiragama, the metal it was
forged from a sheer black, the blade actually shone a deep blue
when he held it to the light, a slightly magical sheen.
A glow emanates from the altars as the twins blink, peering to
where they had rested beforehand. The weapons began to glow to
match. Suddenly the boy lets out an ear-piercing scream as he
falls to his knees, the stuffed rabbit falling from his grasp,
clutching his hand. Nyrr blinks, eyes quickly moving to what was
happening, a circle being cut into his skin, by an invisible
force, tears run down the boy's face. "Tyrr! I'm sorry, I
shouldn't have suggested this place, Sensei always warned us not
to go here..." She blinks, as she felt something tug in her
mind, she felt a piercing in her hand, peering down as she
noticed the same thing happen, though, it felt like she was
watching it through a long hallway, and it seemed to get farther
       away.
The boy sniffled, clutching his hand before the pain stopped,
blood pooled on the floor, his rabbit being stained red by some
blood as he pants, peering up to his sister. A metallic sliiding
sound as the girl slowly slides the blade from its sheathe, a
large grin on her face suddenly. Tyrr's eyes widen as the girl
drops the sheathe, turning her eyes toward her brother, her arms
falling to her slide, katana clutched in a hand. Her head tilted
slightly to the side as her eyes seemed to be blank, lifeless.
"What's the matter Tyrr? Afraid of a little blood?" The words
dripped from her mouth, cold, almost lifeless. "WHAT'S THE
MATTER!?" She screamed as a flash of steel and the blade came
down towards the boy's frozen stare.
"What's the matter Tyrr? Tyrr? What's the matter?"
The boy shakes his head, blinking, the sun was up and they were
walking down a dirt road, he had just fallen into a daydream
again. He shakes his head, nodding quietly, hands in his
pockets. Nyrr stares at him for a moment, tilting her head, "As
I was saying, we should head toward the Wald, maybe they have
some ruins around there. If not, well, it's got werewolves, be
cool to see some of those." Tyrr gives a nod, a small smile in
confirmation as the white-haired girl shoves her map back into
her bag, "Well then, it's settled."
