Summary
With the addition of streamers to help generate a more efficient
league stream, several new streamers have expressed frustration
with figuring out the how-to's of streaming. Hopefully, this
video will shed some light on the simpler aspects of setting up
your SPHB stream.
LiveStream Account
The SPHB streams are run through LiveStream, a free-to-use
service for streaming video. In order to stream, you will need
an account on their website here
HTML https://secure.livestream.com/myaccount/selectwizard
which
again, is free.
HTML http://i41.tinypic.com/9zneza.png
The channel name you create is irrelevant, as you will be using
HNN1-HNN4 to stream, not your own channel. After finishing
account creation, you should contact a League Commissioner so
they can grant you access to stream on the HNN channels.
You can see what channels you're able to stream on at this link.
HTML https://secure.livestream.com/myaccount/channels
LiveStream Procaster
I highly suggest that you use LiveStream's "Procaster" to stream
video. It's easy and, of course, free. You can find the download
here
HTML http://www.livestream.com/platform/procaster.
The Procaster
supports Mac and PC - this tutorial will use the Mac version,
but to my knowledge, they aren't noticeably different.
HTML http://i41.tinypic.com/kcadv.png
Download your supported version, and run the simple
installation. You should have a program that looks like this:
HTML http://i43.tinypic.com/34qtnc6.png
Enter your login details, and you'll be taken to a screen like
this:
HTML http://i42.tinypic.com/333e8lv.png
[li]Channel selector. Be certain that you have the correct
channel selected before going live. Alpha is typically on
channel HNN1, Omega is on HNN2.[/li]
[li]Go Live. This button will begin streaming your
camera/desktop to the selected channel.[/li]
[li]Video source. Be sure that you don't have your webcam
selected, or SPHB will be sure to take pictures and make you
regret it. This should be set to "No Camera," and you will
stream your desktop instead.[/li]
[li]Quality. If your stream is experiencing bad lag, use this to
lower your video quality. When streaming, you will be given
quality feedback by the Procaster. I'll explain this later.
[/li]
Streaming Video
Once you're live, you're going to want to control the video
being streamed. Primarily, this means which portion of your
screen is being streamed - nobody wants to see your entire
desktop.
By default, your entire desktop will be screened. You should see
a narrow toolbar at the bottom of your screen called the Control
Bar.
HTML http://i42.tinypic.com/35lgevb.png
As you can see, this tool will give you several useful feature.
From left to right:
[li]Stream preview. You will have a thumbnail view of what your
viewers are seeing.[/li]
[li]Data. This will tell you how long you've been streaming,
your FPS (Frames Per Second), Kbps, CPU usage, as well as the
quality of your stream.[/li]
[li]Stop Button. This will end your stream.[/li]
[li]Zoom In/Out. These will adjust the size of your Stream
window.[/li]
[li]Minimize. This will hide the Control Bar[/li]
To stop streaming your entire desktop, you want to click "Zoom
In" a few times, until you see a green box. That green box will
represent the borders of your stream view.
HTML http://i39.tinypic.com/2m47kvd.png
I'm not sure on SPHB's policy, but I recommend streaming the
game window only (meaning not the chat box). I do this because
the chat is often not something that the viewers need to see.
For example, code word verification, password changes, and
raging. In addition, idiots will be less motivated to flood the
game rooms with idiocy if they don't have an audience.
Streaming Audio
Audio streaming isn't something I'm very knowledgable of, but
hopefully I can shed some light on the subject. Typically, your
stream will include any audio that is being played by your
computer. If you're listening to music, on a Skype call, or
watching porn, your viewers will probably know about it.
However, if your audio isn't being streamed, this might help.
Keep in mind, I'm showing you on a Mac, but you should be able
to do the equivalent on a PC.

HTML http://i40.tinypic.com/10ymdua.png
PC users should be able to do the same thing through the control
panel.
Keep in mind that after streaming, you may have to go back to
your Sound settings and change it back to your default speaker.
Scoreboard
The spoiled viewers of SPHB generally expect to see an easy to
understand scoreboard during gameplay. For this, you have two
options.
Star Board
HTML http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=205923<br
/>- I cannot supply image help for this because I cannot run it
on
my computer (Parallels won't support it), but it seems pretty
clear cut. If Shawn can do it, so can you. (chew)
GeorgeBoner's Board
HTML http://up.ht/xLm8DS
- Hopefully he doesn't mind me sharing this,
but he didn't seem to have any reservations when I asked for it.
HTML http://i39.tinypic.com/10zuuk1.png
Simply drag the red and blue circles to the competing teams (the
white space next to their logo) and click "To Scoreboard!"
HTML http://i39.tinypic.com/r1woep.png
Controls
[li]Click the team's logo to play their goalhorn.[/li]
[li]Click the cactus (boxed in red) to stop the goalhorn.[/li]
[li]Click above a team's score to increment it by one.[/li]
[li]Click below a team's score to decrease it by one.[/li]
[li]Click above or blew the period to increase or decrease
it.[/li]
[li]Click the empty area in the bottom left (boxed in red, click
around to find it) to return to the team selector.[/li]
All credit for GeorgeBoner's scoreboard obviously goes to
GeorgeBoner himself.
