Another idea to spur membership: monetary prizes

Ok so you may think I'm crazy to suggest this, but hear me out.
So far we have 10 teams (5 in each division) with an average of
about 8 players per team. If we had each member of every team
place a $5 ante at the beginning of each season, that would lead
to a total of $400 in prize money. Take out $32 to help pay for
web-based expenses and split the remaining amount for each
division, and that would lead to a $184 prize for the first
place finishers in each division (about $23 per person or a $18
net gain). As the league expands, that prize amount would
increase.
FAQ:
Q: Why would this be any useful?
A: Having a monetary prize for being on the winning team would
increase attendance in games because there is something cool to
be gained instead of simply having bragging rights. It would
also lure more non-members into wanting to join.

Q: What would the extra money be used for?
A: Any money not appropriated as prize money would be used to
help pay for professional online services such as a website and
potentially a Teamspeak/Ventrilo server.
Q: Who would be required to pay? Would players not on a team be
required?
A: Only members of a team that exists for the coming season
would be required to pay. Players not on any team (free agents)
would not be required to pay.
Q: If a player on a team fails to pay ante for that season,
would his/her team be penalized?
A: Teams would only be penalized in so far as that player would
not be able to play in games until the payment is met.
Q: If a player is on a team but fails to pay ante, is he/she
still eligible for receiving prize money?
A: No.
Q: How would money be sent?
A: We could use Paypal to ensure secure transfer of money.
Q: Who would manage the money each season?
A: A league treasurer would need to elected to the league. I
suppose I could do it if we decided to go along with this plan
seeing as I've had some experience with managing money for a
gaming organization (I hosted a pay-to-play Minecraft server
prior to founding this league).
Q: What would be the refund policy?
A: No refunds would be allowed under any circumstances. This is
to ensure that players of the losing teams do not decide to
refund their money just before the winning teams are decided.

i really dont want to bring money into this ...
i feel that it would cause a lot more rage and make things less
enjoyable
For example: the winning team would probably rub it in the other
team's faces.
I try to promote a fun experience for all players, not just
those who can pay to play

The ante would be very small for each player. Plus I would
imagine it to be more fun by playing for money rather than
playing for bragging rights. It's just like playing poker with
your friends: it's a lot more fun when you have real money on
the line instead of plastic chips. The extra money would also
help us to expand by paying for professional online services.

All in all, $5 is a very small loss making the overall risk
minimal and the potential reward great for each player.

be able to pay

Perhaps a donation system would be better then. We probably
would not receive enough donations for any significant monetary
prize, but at least we would be able to invest in better online
services such as a real domain and host.

Perhaps there should not be an award for every fuccking post you
write and there would be an award to all donors, saying how much
money they donated.
In addition we can give +5 rep per dollar someone donates.
I don't think we should pay to play in this league though. A
lot of people would probably not end up playing.

hmm a donation system seems better than the pay to play
suggestion, but a good idea though LW, prob a diff division
consisting of a few teams doing that and a free to play
division, but yea donation sounds better
