Cav, I am so so sorry to hear this.
Sending you all mojo and comfort. I hope it helps to know that
she knows she is loved.

At the risk of making it finally feel real:
She's gone.
She snoozed on the couch between us for awhile, then jumped down
to go get some water. After a couple of sips, she collapsed next
to the bowl. For the next several hours, we lay on the floor
with her. I tried to give her her 9 PM meds and she refused.
She's never refused a pill pocket. So I tried some peanut butter
on a spoon. No interest.
Eventually I got down a slightly curved plate and poured from
her water bowl onto that, because she couldn't hold up her head
high enough to take sips from her bowl.
Every time DC or I hopped up, her head raised up a bit before
collapsing again. A couple of times she tried to walk and
skidded across the floor.
We called every euthanasia at home service we could get the
number for. The only one that was truly 24 hours didn't serve
our area.
So, against every single fiber of my being, we took her back to
the emergency vet we took her to last night. The receptionist
cried when I called to make the appointment.
When we got there, they took her back to the ER to prep her
while putting us in an exam room. The shot of adrenaline she got
from being in the ER by herself gave her enough strength to walk
in with us, where she collapsed between us.
She stayed with us for the next hour+, since the on-call vet had
some emergencies that were triaged ahead of us. She held on to
the very end.
We are not doing well right now and we're leaning in to the
delusions. We made her little makeshift bed at the foot of ours.
You know, in case she wants to go to bed with us tonight. Her
blanket is back in her crate if she wants to sleep there
instead.
The most irrational thing I've done tonight is make Daniel clean
that dinner plate with me out of the room, because her DNA was
on it and it needed to get clean but I didn't want to be the one
to wash that part of her away. He went along with it, bless him.
But he's also the one who made her makeshift bed.

Cav, I'm so, so sorry. Having walked that road it's one of the
hardest roads to travel. She was a blessing in your lives and
will always be with you in your hearts and I'm glad you were
with her at the end. Sending many comforting hugs to you.

Oh Cavia, I am so, so sorry. That is such a hard thing to go
through. I wish there was something I could do but I know there
is nothing.

I'm so sorry. I have no words. From the start your love and
devotion to her came through to all of us.
Peace and hugs to you all.

So sorry about your beautiful dog; what a cruel twist. Thank
you for giving her such a pampered and loving life.
(I know exactly what you mean about the dish; I kept a tiny
china saucer that my little Chihuahua ate his heart medication
from, without washing it -- it's in a drawer with his beloved
sweaters.)
