My personal opinion only.
Chris Rock and Will Smith beef was arranged. They needed more
people to actually give a shit about the Oscar’s and fighting is
the way to do it, especially between two household names.
Will Smith was only supposed to yell something back, the hit was
a genuine surprised to Chris Rock, likely because he’s been
running his mouth his whole career and hasn’t been hit yet.

Certainly from the Will Smith side - that he lost his temper so
completely and publicly. That is not consistent with his public
persona for a very long time, and I haven't heard rumors or
mutters that his private persona is significantly different from
the public one.
It's more the fact of where/when it happened, than that it
happened at all. If Kanye West had done it, I would be far less
surprised.
Agree that the Academy only cares about money, no surprises
there.

and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
Whenever anybody sustains high level performance for a long
time, their actions no longer surprise me. I have a point here,
I swear, but it’s like how Bernie Sanders dressed at Joe Biden’s
inauguration.
Sanders knows what to wear. He didn’t have to wear it because he
knew people were going to vote for him no matter what. Smith
knows how to behave at an award show. He punched Rock because he
knew it wouldn’t hurt him in the casting room or the box office.

If the Academy really wants to tell people this behavior will
not be tolerated they'll revoke Smith's award and ban him from
future shows. I put the odds of them doing either or both at
about a trillion to one.
And it's telling to me that Chris Rock has said NADDA today. No
statements from his press people. No snark on social media. No
"anonymous sources say" commentary. Nothing.

Mr. strongly disagrees with my assessment that it was a tie for
bad behavior. So I have amended my listing to give the
controversy Oscar to Smith (and it is not to be considered an
honor).
Apparently this is not the first time Will Smith has hit
someone. He back-handed a prankster posing as a reporter for
trying to kiss him on the lips.
"In 2012, Smith was on a world tour promoting his movie Men in
Black 3 when he had an altercation with Vitalii Sediuk.
Moving along the line of journalists on the red carpet, Smith
came face to face with Sediuk who embraced him, but the
interaction became more aggressive when Sediuk tried to kiss
Smith.

I’m late to this discussion and that’s fine because frankly I
can’t get too worked up about it. If this had happened anywhere
else but a huge awards show it would merit a paragraph in the
major press and and a story in the gossip columns.
I’m more upset that this is the second time I can recall in
recent years that someone from the audience has run up and
accosted the person on stage. The Academy has to get more
serious about their security.

I'm actually ok with that smack. If someone tried to force a
kiss on me, I'd deck em too.
