dear kitteh,
Not every day is your spa day...

I just post this wondering if most cats would take flight with
the water running, but not this one?

A surprising number of cats do like the water running on them
like that. Until they get wet enough to then leap out of the
sink and have soggy zoomies all over the house.

Long time ago in what feels like another lifetime I had a white
tom cat with blue eyes. We called him Frankie....and I didn't
remember until several years after I named Frankie that I was
guilty of reuse... Bad mommy....
Anyways we had this cheap metal shower that was barely big
enough to fit yourself let alone anyone else and Frankie would
very carefully walk into it along the lip between the floor and
the side and stand there with you. At some point he would
leave. He also slept in the sink. He was a weird one.

Dear Cat,
This thing we're doing now? The thing where I'm knitting and
you're snoozing on my lap and not breaking or biting anything?
This is why I keep feeding you.
Love,
Your personal heating pad

Dear Cat,
No, that is not a sheet-monster under the sheet. It is my foot.
You watched me get into bed, remember? You may recall that my
feet were attached to my legs the whole time.
Attacking the apparent sheet-monster and then looking surprised
when I yell causes me to think that either you're really good at
pretending to be startled or you've got the attention-span of a
gnat.
Love,
Your Person

Dear Cat,
OK, I get it. You don't like the new flavor of food. I could
tell by your industrious efforts to cover it up, scratch scratch
scratch.
At least the overturned dish stayed on the placemat, that catnip
banana sure helped cover it up. But the sock? Wasn't that from
upstairs?

I really love this. Nothing like the cat telling you the food is
actually poop.

I had a huge solid grey, green eyed boy who's favorite napping
spot was the sink, even whilst I washed my hands. And he
showered with me, either sitting in the tub, or sitting on the
side with the plastic curtain peeled back.
I had my own, personal peeping Tom.

Dear cat:
I like the furminator as well. I enjoy grooming you with it but
NOT during my morning tea! No, orange cat hair does not add a
certain je ne sais quoi to my morning cuppa.

I WISH my guy liked the furminator enough to ask for it. It's
the only brush he tolerates at all but he still doesn't like it.
And hairballs upset his stomach more than most cats. Sigh.

Orion doesn't just ask for it -- he demands it. We've achieved
accord regarding food, but he doesn't see tea as food, so he
thinks I should stop what I'm doing and furminate him NOW! If
I quit too soon he chirps at me until I either lock him out or
start grooming again. The other four cats run the gamut from
"Oh Hell no, you aren't touching me with that thing!" to "If you
must" with an eyeroll and a heavy sigh, but the orange boy
adores that furminator. And my hairbrush. And the flea comb (but
my specific hair brush and the furminator are the best).
It amuses me because when he was a kitten they told us he was "a
little shy" but he was such a scaredy-cat that I had to pull
drawers out of the rolltop desk to catch him and force-cuddle
him for the first year and now he's pretty consistently
demanding love, pets and the furminator. Even now, 13 years
later, I'm the only person who can consistently pet him anywhere
in the house.
