A brief tutorial - The Ignore Function (and its deficiencies)
By: animaniactoo Date: February 19, 2022, 6:41 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Something that should really be a default: To ignore a user you
have to add them to your ignore list AND go check this button:
Profile > Look and Layout > Hide posts from users on my ignore
list.
What the ignore function does: It collapses the original post of
the person you are ignoring so that you will not see what they
have said by default. You will have the option to expand the
post if you are curious about it.
What the ignore function does not do: Hide the post if someone
else has quoted it, and it is contained in their message.
We hope that someday the platform may be improved to fix this
deficiency, but in the meantime...
For this reason, we ask that IF you have reason to believe that
several people have a particular member on ignore, you do not
quote their post when replying to them. Please mention their
name or use the tagging function in your post if you wish to be
clear that it is a reply to their post.
Also for this reason, we ask that members exercise their best
restraint at mentally ignoring someone and skipping right on by
if you are seeing the words/posts/name/conversation with name of
someone whose posts you have ignored.

Who can see a member's ignore/buddy list?
Only the user: profile info like that is not visible to other
users/mods.

For reference, I just looked to see what I could see as admin,
and I can't see anything at all. If it can be seen at all, it
would be by the platform admins (createaforum). But not anybody
here within the forum.

Okay, I am usually very good at figuring this type of thing out
for myself, so I feel a little sheepish, but... Did the ignore
feature disappear? I can't find an option to ignore someone
anywhere, and I swear I don't have the Hide posts from ignored
users on my look and feel page either.
I might be losing it. Or the mobile site might be tripping me
up.

Sadly, the Ignore function does not work via the mobile site.
It still works, however, if youre using the full site.
So, just want to confirm your Ignore feature works when you use
the full site? Or, do you always only use mobile?

Oh I see, I had to go through my profile. I thought I would find
it on the user's profile.
And it really doesn't work at all on mobile, good to know. But I
like the way it functions on the full site.
Thank you!

If you can stand the miniature ness of the full site on your
phone, I think ignore will work.
The thing about mobile sites in general is that in order to have
text large enough, not all the features fit. All options are
limited for display purposes. So the ignore feature on the
mobile site doesn't have that link in the code. Just guessing. I
am not a coder IRL but I play one on the Internet.
