This is a total pain in the ass, but puréed soups in the Vitamix
are so good. I’m making butternut squash tonight!

Like moreso than making soup on the stove?

You have to transfer the soup from the pot to the blender and
then back again. A stick blender is much easier but the texture
is grainier.
And Q’s soup below is very good and exactly what I’m making.

Ahhh, that makes sense. I have a stick blender and agree the
texture from it is not great. I'm looking forward to the velvety
smooth vitamix texture!
Our hand mixer broke this week too and Rick tried to use the
immersion blender on mashed potatoes. Instant gum. If you are
ever tempted to try it, you would have better luck hand mashing
with a fork.

I have never mashed potatoes with anything except a potato
masher or my kitchenaid. I heard that you can't do them in a
blender at all and every time someone does it on chopped I yell
at the TV: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

We watch a lot of Chopped and I am always yelling at the TV

People are all over Alex on social media about why there isn't a
2nd machine. She thinks only having one machine keeps it
competitive and doesn't want to change.
The people I get irritated with are the ones that take up BOTH
fryer baskets! Selfish!

I will never ever forget the Iron Chef were somebody made
salmon-flavored ice cream. Even if I can no longer remember who
the hell thought that was a good idea.

I think that she needs a new understanding of competitive. I am
reminded of the Top Chef Masters where someone had the
opportunity to give their opponent a box of ingredients that
worked well with their cooking style, or sabotage them. They
gave them the one that worked best, because their opinion was
that they wanted to beat them at their best, not because they
were handicapped.

In my exhaustive studies of cooking shows, I’ve noticed that Top
Chef has a season of 15 - 20 competitors so you get invested in
the chefs and the ensuing drama. But Chopped is just a one hour
show with revolving competitors, so the producers have to
manufacture drama, not edit drama. I think in this way, the
contestants are set up differently by the formats.
I loooooove Top Chef but something was off about the Portland
season and I’m not sure what it was, exactly. Maybe I’ve just
been watching the same show for 15 years?

I took a break for 4 or 5 years, and came back 2? 3? seasons
ago. I thought Portland was fine, it was just off for having
been done in the middle of a pandemic, so you missed a lot of
the "serve masses of people" (athletes post-competition, groups
of kids, etc.) portions where they all get rated on their food
by ordinary peoples.
