Re: What I sent to HAX about the OT ban

I am not at all surprised at the Hax comments about the OT ban,
as I have very often found her advice overly wordy and rather
snarky, with a side of “ look how cool I am”. Occasionally I
was pleasantly surprised when compassion showed through. And I
liked when she posted pictures of her dog in the chat. I joined
solely for OT comments.
So your guys better keep up the good work here!😂 I’m
counting on you! Don’t make me come over there.

Wait. I got it. You upset people thought you had a
relationship. I was just using her for, um, for conversation.

I don't think anyone thought that. I thought she lost her way
5+ years ago and started taking herself WAYYYYYYY too seriously.
She used to be more fun and witty.
This move was just the culmination of that metamorphosis.

For those of you who did not have the benefit of her ladyship's
explanation:
"And the stuff I saw going back and forth may have come from
only a few people who forgot themselves in the heat of things,
but it created a hostile climate that runs counter to everything
my work is about, and forced me to change course. The
us-vs.-them also became a distraction, drawing my attention away
from my core responsibilities."

Oh god...
BTW OP, I sent you a message asking about that issue you were
dealing with like 2 years ago ;D

This. I used to say she would take you for a walk around the
block first. I think a lot of that was her trying to show how
cool and smart she was.
Don't get me wrong. I've been reading advice columns ever since
Ann Landers was in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat and I was 10
years old. My mother handed me the column and asked me what I
thought. I was hooked. From then on it was either Ann Landers or
her twin, Dear Abby. Those two offered up real advice. I think
Ann finally threw in the towel when her every bit of advice was
"go to counseling." Compared to actual advice columnists of a
time long gone, CH was pretty good.
I was reading Amy in my local paper, because that's what was
offered. When I found CH on the WaPo, and I wasn't getting my
local paper any longer, I quit reading Amy entirely. She is
really quite bad at the advice business.

Wheee! You are wise to have told me or I, Queen of Luddites,
never would have seen it.
I admit, I am glad you reminded which issue it was. So many, so
many....
