Again, these comments area may loom large for individual
subscribers but as a component of the overall operation they are
minutia. How much thought are they supposed to put into the
moderation policies; it's not a Supreme Court opinion. It's
some low-level webbie doing the best they can, not a vast
authoritarian conspiracy against the subscribers. News
organizations are not obliged to be a forum for any and all
opinions/announcements/points of view.
To put it in perspective, do you suppose the CEO of a health
system spends much time worrying about what's on the menu in the
cafeteria or what's for sale in the gift shoppe? Whether or not
vegetarian and gluten-free fare is sold, or whatnot, might be
important to the individual visitor, but it's really a drop in
the bucket to what the system's management has to worry about.
They really don't care if people like the food or if they bring
their own brown-bag, or if they go hungry and stop at McDonald's
on the way home. By the same token, I doubt the executives of
the WaPo waste time trying to trick, thwart or undermine a tiny
handful of subscribers.
Just to be clear and not leave something wrong standing....I am
not seeing this as a "vast conspiracy" against Hax posters.
Good God. What I am commenting on is the actual practice of
removing hundreds of comments that do not, apparently, violate
the posted guidelines. So posters don't know about them. Not
fair or ethical. And it is someone's decision to remove the
comments, and to decide which posts qualify beyond the
guidelines.
Have a good one. :)
And the person whose decision it is, probably is an
inexperienced intern or one step up. The decision to delete
likely made in a split second by someone who has one eye on
their personal iPhone.

Hellooooo rick!
We are neglecting to dump on her for her pompous explanation
about why she made the decision, including a reference to the
fact that the squabble was distracting her from her "core
responsibilities."

Hey OP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Haha, I missed that one. She's saving lives! She cannot be
distracted!
I missed that too. She really does have a bloated sense of the
gravity of her responsibilities. She's not a rocket surgeon
::)

Eyeroll is right.
But it just reinforces my idea that she doesn't actually give a
fuck about the "nuts". Not one little bit, and probably never
has. As long as we stayed in our little assigned box she was
fine with it, but the minute we caused her a bit of trouble she
went straight to "See ya!"
I think the main difference for me personally is that I don't
give two shits about her either. The only reason I went there
at all was to hang out with you people.

Wait. I got it. You upset people thought you had a
relationship. I was just using her for, um, for conversation.

For those of you who did not have the benefit of her ladyship's
explanation:
"And the stuff I saw going back and forth may have come from
only a few people who forgot themselves in the heat of things,
but it created a hostile climate that runs counter to everything
my work is about, and forced me to change course. The
us-vs.-them also became a distraction, drawing my attention away
from my core responsibilities."

LOL!!
Answering four or five advice-column letters a week in the first

exactly on the ground in Kabul. Or even attending the council
meetings at Podunk City Hall.

Damn you guys are addictive. Okay, just saying... if you need a
place to go give advice (to someone who is probably actually
paying attention!) - Thursday at 11am is AskAManager's weekly
"Ask the Readers" question - where she gets a question that she
thinks answers are better crowdsourced and posts it for everyone
to comment on. This is today's
HTML https://www.askamanager.org/2021/08/is-it-crazy-to-quit-my-job-to-go-freelance-in-2021.html
The 2 pm post is also particularly relevant for me right now for
some odd reason... (times when you triumphed over a jerk at
work):

Oops. I meant to post this in today's thread. Copy and paste
will be my friend here...

Her core responsibilities probably have little to do with her
job.

Well, I admired some of her advice. Greatly, in a couple of
cases. :) I can actually think of columns in which she had a
real impact on me, because she turned an issue sideways and
threw out some very interesting ideas to think about.
So that made reading the column worth my while.
But I was never delusional that there was this "relationship"
between the commentariat and her. But I do see an
inconsistency. She used to "toss things out to the nuts"
frequently. There was Haxphiles. She sent people into the
commentary to find community. And then that turned on a
dime.....and we know the rest about suspensions and bans.
I feel her judgment was way, way off on this one. And once you
start looking at someone's judgments askew, and also wondering
about their ethics, you're pretty much screwed in terms of
moving forward.
