I've seen very few movies over the past year. Ones with
nominations: EEAAO, Avatar, Wakanda Forever, Batman, Top Gun,
Knives Out. (Yes, I tend to go for mindless eye candy these
days.) I really like Michelle Yeoh and Angela Bassett, so I'm
wishing them luck, but I can't really speak to the
qualifications of most of the nominees and it is easy to believe
that there are better performances.
Tangential: WaPo has an article that has been published with
updates over the past few years
HTML https://www.washingtonpost.com/arts-entertainment/2020/02/06/oscars-what-should-have-won-best-picture/<br
/> It is interesting to consider the points the reviewers make
about which films have had lasting impressions of high quality/
impact. The issue that stuck me was how I used to be familiar
with almost all the nominees, but that fell off sharply in the
early 2010s. This coincided with the time when my movie buddies
moved away. The art cinema was about 30 miles from my house,
easier to motivate myself for the drive if there was going to be
good company as well as entertainment. It's a shorter drive now,
so I will be making more of an effort to keep current. Though I
will likely miss out on things from the streaming channels.

Just finished Women Talking and wow. Very powerful film. About a
woman's worth and forgiveness, taking stands, protecting
yourself and those you love. Being brave and making a change
even when it's impossible because a better future no matter how
uncertain is that important. I strongly suggest watching this
film. Plus, it was a powerhouse cast.
Watched Triangle of Sadness last night. Really weird film. I
didn't care for the first part but the middle and ending were
great.

That was an interesting article.
I can start to see when I kind of lost interest in movies. In
the early years I saw almost every film mentioned. In the most
recent I’ve only seen one or two. It was a gradual slide.
I could also see films about women seldom got anywhere and
people of color were ignored all together.

Right?! I loved Everything but if Women Talking upsets it for
best picture I won’t be upset.

I watched the Indian film that won for best song. I still can't
believe it beat out Gaga and Rhianna but it was a funny film.
Although I'm not sure it was trying to be funny. Epic Bollywood
style dance scene to close it out. I always love those.
