Can anyone provide a link to Whoopi Goldberg's comment that
brought her so much flack?
The only thing I am getting is that she said the Holocaust was
not about race.
And if that was the extent of it, I could very well argue that
it was not about race..but about painting people as being of
some imaginary race to cast them as the"others" in order to
justify their persecution...as if there was ever any
justification for persecution of any sort...never mind one bent
on the extermination of a whole subset of people, be it their
race, religion, what have you.
Or has anyone seen on a census form under race/ethnicity the
category "Jewish"?
If anyone has a website that actually has a video of what she
said and how she argued it, I'd be seriously thankful.
I know it is a fraught topic,but I'd like to hear exactly what
words she used.

Yes. Also "Hebrew".
Judaism is an ethnoreligion that predates the concept of race,
but we all have common genetic markers from the Levant and we've
been racialized since at least the 1400s, starting with Spain's
Limpieza de Sangre laws which outlawed conversos from having the
same privileges as "Old Christians".
Race is a social construct that is shifted as needed to preserve
power structures. Whoopi's mistake was thinking that modern race
categories in the United States are universal and timeless.
They're not. They're recent and a product of our culture and
power structures.
Also, considering she adopted the stage name "Goldberg" to sound
Jew-y because Jews control Hollywood, AND she's defended known
virulent antisemite Mel Gibson, I really am not inclined to cut
her any slack here.
