College students dropping out for small expenses

This made me so sad to read.
Since I'm from a larger family, my parents took out a second
mortgage to help pay for college expenses, and I still wound up
funding most of my college myself with saved money from summer
jobs, loans (cosigned) and scholarships, working on campus etc.
I cut expenses by commuting from home for a full year. And it
was back when college was more affordable, but I basically had a
budget for how many college applications I could even pay for.
I was proud to pay off my college loans as fast as possible.
