       What's for Superbowl?
By: Queenie Date: January 31, 2022, 10:46 am

We're invited to watch at a friend's house and I have become
charmed by Chigirl's tradition of making a team-themed snack.
So, what do people in LA and Cincinnati eat that would translate
into superbowl food? I did kind of imagine something with tiger
prawns but I don't think I can get those.

I imagine LA has got to include street tacos and similar cart
       food...

Bugles dresssed up as Bengal tigers?
Tiger bowls? I'm not familiar with LA, so I'm no help there.
Sourdough anything would be easy if only Jimmy G had pulled it
       out.

Cincinnati is famous for its style of chili, especially
       Skyline's.
Not a fan myself, but there you go. That would be fairly easy to
make, with recipes all over the place. We had a discussion here
a week or two back about it.
We have a small group coming to watch with us in our hangar, and
I'll be serving my semi-famous chili (NOT Cincy-style) and baked
       potatoes.

Not sure I’m maneuvering the Reply correctly, but I wanted to
Reply to GingerJ1’s mention of Cincinnati chili. I hadn’t
thought of this for a long time (!), but I was involved for
years with a man who grew up in Cincinnati and still had family
there, so we made frequent trips. On our first trip together,
he was excited to have me try the chili. Oh, my, I really
didn’t like it. A table of people staring at me as I tried to
be pleasantly neutral….I failed the Skyline potential in-law
       test big time.
The next trip I was pleasantly surprised to actually like the
other legendary item in that family-city lore, Graeter’s (sp?)
ice cream, specifically the chocolate/chocolate chip.. I’m not
a fan of chocolate things with chocolate in or on them (too much
chocolate—I know, blasphemy), so I figured this ice cream was
going to be another “She’ll never fit in here” moment. But I
loved it! They pulled it off! Funny how you can remember taste
       decades later.

       Hi, Norele!
Regarding responding to Ginger -- the "Reply" button is simply a
fresh post. I think the idea is you are replying to the topic.
(?) To respond directly to another post, hit the "Quote" button
just above the post on the right side. You'll get a window
containing their post. Next thing is to make sure your cursor is
positioned somewhere underneath the final "/ quote" to have it
display like you want it to.

We are doing Cincinnati chili and mini street tacos for LA.
We are also doing toasted ravioli because the Rams used to be in
       St. Louis. Ha!
My FIL used to make Cincinnati chili a lot when his kids were
young so we are just using that recipe. I think the street tacos
will be flank steak with a cilantro/onion/lime topping. Toasted
ravioli is from the freezer section.

Hey, Cincinnati chili soul sister! I had the same reaction. It
was.....just not what I was expecting. I know spaghetti, I know
chili.....and this was neither. :) Kids and husband were more
enthusiastic, so I've always hoped that glossed over my more
       "Meh" reaction.
As for the SuperBowl, we're going totally LA. Tacos, esp
shrimp, sweet potato, carne, and fish, with all kinds of
toppings. Margaritas. Sweet potato fries. If I were really
there, I'd be getting pho. :)
Dessert: Cake and homemade churros (satisfying two different
demands). And of course ending with Mexican Hot Chocolate.
This seriously makes life worth living.

I think you definitely have to have an open mind when trying
Cincinnati Chili for the first time. If you expect it to taste
like Texas chili, you are not going to like it.
ETA: I remember trying to convince my Mexican buddy to go to
Taco Bell with me for lunch in high school. He said, "That's
not Mexican food!" I was like yeah, you are right. Just don't
think of it as Mexican food, and just try it to see if you like
it. He got hooked on Cheesearitos!
