I'm not sure what to expect here. Freezing rain seems likely
tonight. But there is a forecast for high probability of rain
(?) with temperatures below freezing all day Saturday. Can't
tell if the "--" for predicted snow accumulation means trace or
they're unwilling to commit to a number. A guy I was talking to
yesterday was saying his app showed more than a foot of snow.
Unlikely to be fun driving at any rate. Supposed to get down to
15 degrees Monday night -- I'll probably lose some plants.

The temperature is falling fast here. NOAA added a Special
       Weather Statement:
...AREAS OF BLACK ICE COULD IMPACT THE FRIDAY EVENING COMMUTE
       DUE
       TO A FLASH FREEZE...
At 11 AM PST Friday, temperatures were rapidly dropping across
southwest Washington and far northwest Oregon, including the
Portland/Vancouver metro, Columbia River Gorge, north Oregon
coast, and north Oregon Coast Range. In fact, many locations
within the aforementioned areas were already below freezing at
       11
AM Friday. An arctic cold front dropping from the north,
       combined
with cold easterly winds developing in the Columbia River Gorge,
will result in rapidly cooling temperatures through Friday
afternoon and evening. By approximately 3 PM PST Friday,
temperatures should be in the 20s. Given the wet road conditions
leading up to the flash freeze, areas of black ice are a
       concern.
As such, slippery road conditions could impact the Friday
       evening
commute, prior to the arrival of a winter storm set to impact
southwest Washington and northwest Oregon Friday night through
Saturday night. Sidewalks and other surface may also become icy.

[member=24]kkt[/member] Thanks, that does sound more precise
       than the Weather Underground summary.
One of the most beautiful things I've ever seen was a sunny day
after a light ice storm. Not going to be the case this time.
I'll certainly keep off the roads, not sure how safe it will be
to walk for the next few days. I'm going to cover my back steps
       with a tarp.
And I suddenly remembered my heat pump.

We made it to our hockey game with no problems tonight. The
storm moved so we didn’t get more than an inch of snow. But the
temps dropping and the winds picking up. We wore our long johns,
boots, and warmest jackets and were fine walking a couple blocks
from the parking ramp. Fortunately we got into the close ramp
not the one 6 blocks away.
Now we can stay in all weekend if we want to. I don’t have
       anything. until Monday noon.

We had about 4" of wet, heavy snow this morning. About 10 am, it
started to rain. It's just about 11 pm now, and it has finally
started looking like snow instead of rain. Expecting another
       inch or 2 overnight.
