I just started the Midnight Library. Not sure yet if it's good
or trite and predictable.

Just finished an older book, Midwives, by Chris Bohjalian. Wow.
I don't even watch the PBS show Midwives (*totally unrelated to
the book, just similar subject matter) as not into midwife
stories, (and I disliked OB/ GYN in nursing), but his book was
amazing. I’ll never forget it. Highly recommend.

I haven't read that one or watched the series yet. But I
recently read another book he wrote "The Hour of the Witch". I
liked it very much. Quite a different topic though. I'll keep
this book in mind, too.

I'm in the middle of his "Close your eyes, Hold Hands" and am
having trouble putting it down. It starts slow, and the story
seems to jump around, but it is worth the time.

Another amazingly written book, a 2017 one by Emily Ruskovich, “
Idaho”. Here’s a review:

Still reading - I'm about 2/3 through. But I did want to say
that I LOL'd when Jake went into the old house and the women
said "do you like hazelnut coffee? We only drink Hazelnut." I
guess it's a joke beyond the Haxnuts' forum.

OMG, I did notice that scene!!!
And I had to wonder, why the hazelnut hate? It must be a
"purist "thing, which goes along with one of the overarching
themes of the novel.

Hadn't thought of the theme angle. Makes sense.
So, I finished last night. It was an enjoyable book but not a
page turner, for me, until well past half-way. Although I wasn't
surprised by any of it (and anticipated the final twist very
early on even without enough context to even know why), it was a
fun read. Your mention of theme makes me wonder if I should
think about it more from that perspective. I tend to be an
escapist reader, so I'll bet I missed some things
