A Woman of Endurance by Dahlma Llanos Figueroa
Really digs in through storytelling to the lives of slaves on
plantations in Puerto Rico, and the culture mixing of their
former countries, and their current home. I haven't read her
previous book yet (Daughters of the Stone) despite intending to
for several years and will now be picking it up post haste as
soon as I finish this one. Her character portrayals are
excellent and a lot of the storytelling is in snippets that
delve without overwhelming.

My book club just read Girl in Disguise by Greer Macallister. If
you like historical fiction it’s an interesting and easy read.
It’s loosely based on Kate Warne who was the first woman
Pinkerton agent. It starts in the 1850s and goes through the
civil war years.
I only give it 3 stars since I think the author was trying to do
too many things in one novel. But several of woman in the book
group really loved it. So if you like the genre and are looking
for something that you can read fairly quickly it’s worth the
time.

Two recommendations:
For a good, tear jerker, may i suggest "The One Hundred Years
of Lenni and Margot" by Marianne Cronin. It's a story about two
women, one 17, the other 83, who meet in the hospital at art
therapy. They decide to do 100 paintings to celebrate their
hundred years of life. I am looking forward to talking about it
Monday at book club.
For a romance/mystery may I recommend "The Love of My Life" by
Rosie Walsh. In this book, the husband starts to write a stock
obituary for his wife, who used to be a TV host for a science
program, and he finds things out that she had hidden from him.
Even at the end there are twists in the plot. This book was so
popular that I reserved it both Kindle and hard copy; I was
close to 100th in line for a hard copy when the Kindle version
was available. If our other librarian who was leading book club
comes back from maternity leave, I will be telling her about it.

I'm reading an Anne Perry novel I picked up from a lending
library. It's pretty good. Every time I pick it up though I
think of the author's past.

Coincidentally, I just finished The Cater Street Hangman,
because friends are fans of Perry. It was enjoyable enough, and
I'm debating whether I should try the next in the series to see
how her writing and the series evolves. I had no idea about her
background. If I decide to read the next one, I hope it doesn't
intrude.

I have read quite a few of her books but never really checked
into her background. Wow.
She writes well and the stories are entertaining and absorbing.
I'm not sure though that those things are enough?

I read much of her Thomas Pitt series, until I got tired of it,
but never knew anything about the author.
I tried the Monk series but it was too dark for me.

Ann Tyler.. French Braid… loved it
Chris Bohjalian..The Lioness.. also very good, but skipped some
violent parts.
I’ve read many of these authors’ books and they can be a bit
uneven.
And I just looked up Anne Perry! Wowser!!!

Fairy Tale by Stephen King
I'm about 120 pages in (of 600), and it's an interesting story.
I keep waiting for it to get King-y. I imagine it will at some
point. It always does.

Michelle Sagara, The Emperor's Wolves. It's a shift to tell some
previously covered ground from a different POV and starting a
little further back than the first book in the OG series
started, I'm enjoying it.
