This is amazing. :) My first thought was "But how do they
survive without photosynthesis?" Fascinating to see how life
finds a way.

Not the same as the shelf, but there are some interesting
creatures (really) deep in Monterey Bay.

I see they theorize algae swept under the ice shelf is
responsible.
I looked up Antarctica before the Ice age, since frozen
runoff of ancient animals and plants also could be nourishment.

There was a river before.
When ice melts, it puddles at the bottom, if you get me?
Water is denser than ice. So there could well be runoff from
land under the ice shelf, bringing previously frozen nutrients
to this ecosystem. Will be interested to learn more if that's
the case... preferably before dread beasts frozen for millennia
awaken.

What an interesting article.
Paloma - there are plants that grow underground and do not
photosynthesize.
I’m aware of a genus of orchids that do this,but there may be
other plants as well?
It’s pretty cool when you think about it I think. All the
ways Mother Nature has provided.
