I'm the only person in my department at the hospital, and I take
the night call (all the while hoping nothing bad happens to
anyone --- I'm pretty much only called when someone dies).
Everyone else has a family. I'm just a guy with a dog.

Hey just-a-guy-with-a-dog, you gots a Family.
We're all sitting right here, bruh. 👈👀

I suppose I'll probably be here a few hours on the 25th.

Not everyone else. I'm just a lady with a cat at Christmas. It
works though. It beats what was by miles.

I'll join you both. I've had to decline Christmas with my family
this year - unvaccinated 20 yo grandson who lives with my
vaccinated daughter. They both socialize a lot including with
unvaccinated, unmasked friends. And my geriatric cat died a year
ago. Yikes! That sounded sadder than I feel. Here's to a better
2022.
As to the dinner menu, pork tenderloin with some easy sides. And
I have some cherries in the freezer. So maybe pie.

Lasagna, Sunday Gravy, meatballs, sausage, cheesecake.
Just typing that made me feel full.
If you replace the cheesecake with pastries from the Italian
bakery, it's the dinner my mother makes. Plus bread, but I'm
guessing with that meal, the bread goes without saying.
My Italian-American Aunt made a good Christmas lasagna on the
rare occasions she hosted. Hated lasagna until I tasted hers.
(Don't ask, the school made a horrible white lasagna that makes
my stomach churn to this day just thinking of it.) I still
don't make lasagna though. What single person can eat a whole
casserole with a few pounds of pasta in it?
LOL. You know you don't have to make that much, right?

I hope I’m not the person requesting the local LabPartner. And
that my sister eats some of the lasagna.
Once again [member=46]LabPartner[/member], thanks for what you

Just ordered dinner from the same restaurant from which we
ordered Thanksgiving dinner—which was delicious. This is a local
place that has survived the pandemic. The food is good and the
owners and staff are great. Turkey with stuffing, sweet
potatoes, mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts with bacon jam and
Mac and cheese and apple pie!!!!
This is a remake of our plans. By last Sunday, I was already
thinking of canceling out of going to see family out of state .
We finally canceled on Wed., then heard from my sister (who
hosts Christmas Eve each year) that my niece’s little son has
Covid. He had his second shot last week but tested positive the
next day. He had the second shot at the earliest possibility but
because he is in the 5-12 group that was just approved, was
eligible for the second jab only last week.
We feel sad because we did not have Christmas with family last
year but we really have to be careful because I am on a new drug
that lowers my immune response—but hopefully works against
recurrence. We have not seen son and DIL in two years because
they live abroad.
On the other hand, we are all healthy this Christmas and are
thankful for that. Hopefully we can go to church on Christmas
morning. They require masks so we feel ok about going. We have
never actually celebrated at our home parish because we
generally travel and last year the church was closed.
🎄🙂

My family is doing Thanksgiving on repeat. So I'll have sides
while everyone's eating turkey. Plus I'm making approximately
six million cookies with my time off this week.
I'm spending New Year's alone, and anticipating that it'll be
tough (2022 is not likely to be a good year for me), so I'm
planning to assign myself cooking projects. Apple cinnamon rolls
for breakfast. Possibly a mushroom Wellington for dinner. Maybe
a vegetarian pot pie instead. I'm not sure yet.

The piggins will have a very exciting meal of grape tomatoes,
romaine, celery, carrots, and bell pepper delivered by our
fabulous pet sitter.
Still not sure about us humans ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ We'll do
something. Breakfast is coffee and julekage that Mom is bringing
with her ... spouse and I get to bring the rest of the loaf home
with us <3
Hopefully, I won't be visiting Lab's hospital over Christmas ...
but, I haven't yet hit up an ER in Chicago, so all bets are off.

Our Christmas plans went sideways last night — congestion,
fever, headache, and all that jazz. Just got swabbed, and we’ve
already cancelled this afternoon’s flights/hotel. Hopefully it’s
just my fantastic ability to pick up any and all wintertime
bugs.
Now to figure out Christmas dinner … and I’ll need to order
groceries.
