Saga of the Oxford High School shooting

I have a feeling we will be hearing quite a bit on this incident
and what we know so far is anything but "normal"
So starting this thread to elicit thoughts/
arguments/discussion.

So to start things off...
School had several weeks earlier called the kid in for a serious
talk and supposedly the parents were made aware of this.
Parents buy Sig Sauer as Christmas present for son on Black
Friday.
The day of the shooting, parents called in to school due to
disturbing pics made by shooter..including kids lying in pools
of blood. Parents resist any attempt to remove kid.
Approx. four hours later, the kid comes out of a bathroom and
starts mowing down his fellow students.
Upon hearing they might be charged themselves..parents head for
the hills, rather than stand next to their obviously extremely
disturbed son (there is parental love for ya!!)

The parents' disregard for the warnings from the school is
breathtaking.

We need to start teaching kids about the symptoms of mental
illness, and what to do if their parents don't take them
seriously when they're feeling like they're in a mental health
crisis.
