This actress, you may know as one of Bridget Jones's friends in
the movie version, is also a fantastic singer.
This clip from Topsy Turvy (a great film if you like Gilbert and
       Sullivan)

I love Gilbert and Sullivan! Our local society did no live
production last summer or this summer, obviously, though they
did some online things. It's just not the same as a live show.

I'll admit some of my favorite Gilbert and Sullivan is the
Muppet Show episode with Gilda Radner.

"Topsy-Turvy" (1999) is one of my favorite films. An incredibly
rich character study and lusciously photographed 160 minutes
which has never been a waste of my life, no matter how may times
i watch it. In my view, it is a definition of cinematic
       endeavor.

My introduction to the world of opera was via Gilbert & Sullivan
at the Lyric Opera in KC at about 10 years old. One of my
brothers got taken to Susannah and the Elders. I loved it and
eagerly took whichever brother's tickets if they didn't want
       their second opera that season.
My first Broadway show was Pirates of Penzance with Kevin Kline
and Linda Ronstadt and some guy -- Rex Smith?
I've always had a soft spot for G&S since then...

When I was in my teens my dad took me to the Stanford student
productions. Later, when I moved to Seattle, I went to the
shows of the G&S group here. It's a great society, professional
musicians and actors at least for the principle roles, and they
do all of Gilbert and Sullivan's operettas in rotation, not just
the 4 or 5 most famous ones that get good box office. For a
while, my mom went with me. I took the child one year and they
enjoyed it, but they do it in July when the auditorium rent is
low and many years the child is working out of town, and for the
last couple of years of course there haven't been live shows.

I am jealous that you live somewhere that there's a standing G&S
       group!

LG, that's one of DH's and my favorite films! We love G&S.
