My nieces and nephew are now fully vaccinated, so we will be
doing our normal xmas eve stuff with brothers and SILs and
nieblings at mom's house, but the cousin's xmas day is still off
for this year and we are not hosting our big new years thing
either, so it's all a mixed bag.

Yeah, second year in a row without MeatFest on January 1, but
I'll go to my sister's house for Christmas Eve assuming omicron
doesn't snap at me when I'm at work.

Last year the two of us escaped to an off-grid tiny house in the
Blue Ridge, rather than doing our normal thing and travelling to
my mom.
This year, we're meeting my mom in Chicago for Christmas. All
three of us are vaxxed, boosted, and mask nearly all the time,
so why not? Most of the stuff I've planned for us involves being
outside. Mom lived there for a while before ending up at her
current university, and we spent a ton of time being tourists
but missed a bunch. Plus, she and I adore snow, and we don't get
that often for Christmas, so fingers crossed ;D

Isn't it weird, what feels OK and what doesn't? Singing in
public feels like a hard no for me.
This is not a dig at anyone, it's me musing that everyone's
risk/reward equation is going to be different.

Last time I was in a church-church, they made an announcement to
encourage congregational singing even though we were all masked.
And you're right about the risk calculus.

No offense taken. Everyone in our choir is vaccinated and sings
with a mask on. Some folks who are normally in the choir have
decided not to return, though, which is understandable.
We're all making our own risk-benefit calculations. For my
husband and me, the social support we get from being in the
choir makes it worthwhile.

Update: Mom's gonna attend the big 'do.
Balancing elders' needs for congregating with loved ones vs.
risk of catching covid is a particularly cruel aspect of this
pandemic.
