I don't know any more about omicron than anyone else, but agree
with this:

This endless onslaught of fear mongering headlines isn't helpful
at all.
The most likely outcome is that the vaccine still largely keeps
people out of hospitals and alive, that if a variant does exist
the vaccine can be reformulated rather quickly and effectively,
and the unvaccinated will be the ones bearing the brunt of any
new outbreaks.
The variant headline stories kinda remind me of the endless new
caravans of illegal immigrant stories. Using fear to get clicks.

Nitpick: the un-immunized. My made-up guess is that those with
active naturally-acquired immunity will also be protected.

In a way I hate to see so much media coverage with so little
information, but on the other hand I wonder if it will be a
wakeup call to people to start being more cognizant in general.
I go usually to three stores every week, and most of the time
about a quarter of us at most are wearing a mask.

Someone who's had Covid is usually protected from getting that
strain of it again for about 90 days, but they can still
contract another strain of it. So, having had Delta this summer
wouldn't protect that person from catching Omicron (which is
probably already here in the States) this winter.

I believe there are still wildly conflicting opinions on this.
The things I've read appear to indicate that the T-cell mediated
immunity one gets from either an actual infection or a challenge
to a vaccine is quite a bit more robust and varied and therefore
protective than a simple vaccination. I've also read directly
conflicting conclusions about the duration of all of the kinds
of immunity and therefore feel that the jury is still out.
I am not a scientist but I spent nearly 25 years in a T cell lab
and for this reason I find the articles about T-cell mediated
immunity very interesting.

Interesting. The stuff I've read said that vaccines are more
protective than an actual case of Covid. More shall be revealed,
huh? Science can be messy, while they're sorting things out.

I find it easy to reinforce confirmation bias on many subjects
and my belief is that covid is no different. Also, journalists
do an absolutely terrible job explaining T-cell immunity.

Most journalists do an awful job of explaining medical studies,
period. It drives me crazy when I see a big headline about a
little study, and the article doesn't lay out the numbers
clearly. (They rarely do.)
