This reminds me of something I saw a couple days ago at the
store. A very elderly man was wearing a KN95, down around his
chin. Not even covering his mouth let alone his nose.
       [/quote]
Last week I saw a differently able elderly man at a local
grocery store pharmacy. He wasn't masked even though there is a
mask requirement in the pharmacy. Quite possibly he just forgot
his mask. I don't think he was hostile to mask protocols. He
wanted a covid vaccination. He had no appointment. The
pharmacy assistant told him he had to sign up online first. He
said he didn't have a computer. She shrugged and turned him
away from getting vaccinated. I offered to help him sign up
using my phone but he left. I wanted the pharmacy to just
vaccinate him. Take the 5 minutes to help him sign up and
vaccinate those who are asking for the vaccine. It is probably
irrational of me, but I was angry about it for half a day.

Wow. Now I'm going to be angry for a day too! That's nuts -
someone was trying to do the right thing and they were turned
       away?
Is this something you'd feel comfortable talking to management
about, given that the man was elderly, differently able and
       didn't have a computer?
He's vulnerable now in many ways.

I did try that day. The store manager was there. The store
manager takes no responsibility for the pharmacy or the
Starbucks inside the grocery store. They gave me a phone
number. The phone number was automated and sent me to an online
complaint form, which I filled out and then received an
automated email response. After that nothing. I suppose
someone may follow up eventually but I doubt they will. It
seems like no humans give an eff about this man but me and you.

You are such a good person, Thetis. Offering to use your phone
to register the man was far more than anyone else did. It just
sucks that someone who is clearly in need of a vaccine and is
trying to get one, can't for lack of official assistance.
       Heartbreaking.

       Argh.
Member of Christmas host family has covid.
He should be clear by Christmas. I'm leaving it up to Mom to
decide whether to attend, but she's gonna have to decide by
       Saturday AM.
       Fucking pandemic.

Mid-January looks to be tough. Lots of vaxxed/boosted people
will likely have mild cases of Omicron after the holidays, and
our hospitals are already overwhelmed with patients who put off
getting care for other conditions while Delta was cresting.
Be choosy about whom you decide to be with over Christmas and
the New Year. Omicron is likely to be less lethal than Delta to
those who are vaccinated and boosted, but it also seems to be
much more transmissable than Delta, and it looks like it has an
easier time latching onto cells in our respiratory tracts.
Note that I'm not saying death rates are going to go way up.
That remains to be seen. What we'll want to notice is how much
the hospitalization rates will go up due to Omicron, not the
total number of cases, because many of the cases (at least in
vaccinated and boosted people) will likely be mild. Even mild
cases of Covid can lead to long Covid, though, so it's prudent
       to stay vigilant.

This thing is blowing up in real time. Seems like everybody I
know has either been exposed or has been exposed to someone who
       has been exposed.
The good news is that amongst the people I know nobody has
       gotten very sick. Yet.
