Today!? You mean through all this time you held firm that it
was not arbitrary?
I'm certain that the first time I tried it some perfectly decent
(but technical) words were not allowed, making the arbitrary
nature obvious. But as far as logic, there may be some criterion
that Ezersky has established against an external authority
(spellcheck, some web search, who knows). My least favorite
allowed word is "croci". They're crocuses, dammit! Spellcheck
doesn't recognize croci! And how do you even pronounce that
second C -- like an S or a K?
When I occasionally look at the solutions, I see other words
that I think are obscure or archaic, including a few I've never
seen before. I've already forgotten them.
Regarding your complaint today, Ezersky possibly noted the
definition that comes up (for me) first in a web search
"(chiefly in science fiction) a person with the paranormal
ability to . . ." so it is kind of a made up word.
This got me thinking: psychopathy, psychopathic, psychopath
(the last word is annotated as a back-formation)
sympathy, sympathetic,
sympath (so not exactly parallel to the above, and the last word
is not found in a dictionary search)
And THEN I read that the adjective related to the pangram can be
written with or without the "et"
Etymology fascinates me, and I think the imperfect logic of word
evolution is part of the reason.

Seems to me like "codec" isn't too specialized a word.
Apparently, Sam Ezersky doesn't agree.

I reached genius today without a pangram, and that's rare, and I
don't know if that means i have to keep torturing myself to find
the pangram, or if I can consider this mischief managed.
Still if someone wants to let me know what letter the pangram
starts with, or any other hit, my pms are open.
inimitable should not have that a in there so annoyingly.

B. I will condescend to tell you that it starts with a B.
Only cuz my sister hit it before I did today and had a whole
bunch of stuff but not that. It's a long word, hefty points. I
moved us from solid to great with that alone.

Ok, now I got it and can quit.
How insulting that I needed a hint, I feel two inches tall.

Am I the only weirdo who thinks "milt" should be counted as a
legit word? I think I learned that one in high school biology
(has to do with fish reproduction). I don't think Sam E. enjoyed
his biology classes.

Hasn't the pangram for today been used already? It seems very
familiar, though the puzzle would change if a different letter
sat in the middle.
OK, update (before I even posted) via Google: The same word was
used in February of this year, with N as the middle letter. AND
in Aug 2020 with B as the middle.

Every time we have those 4 letters I want to use "milt" and it
never counts. That's so annoying!
