Lila needs a new mommy
By: billieryder Date: November 14, 2021, 6:55 pm

Mr. Ryder rescued Lila when she was 4 weeks old. He found her
hurt in the parking lot at work. She had a crushed foot. With
the help of our vet we managed to save her leg/most of her foot.
Her foot never grew properly so its shorter than the other.
When she was healed we gave her to our neighbour at 8 weeks old.
We promised we would take her back if there was an issue.
Little did we know in the intervening 5 or 6 years I would
become ferociously allergic to DSH cats. We have two Devon
Rexes which are hypoallergenic and these are the only kind of
cats I can apparently tolerate. We tried to take Lila for a
week earlier this year when our neighbour was in the hospital.
I barely survived. She can exist with cats and has lived with
Coco and our old pair off and on. She gets tense but time would
solve that. She is not bothered by dogs. She is quite a bold
cat. She is also very loving and playful when not busy being
unique.
Lila is a very unique cat. She does a lot of hissing and
carrying on when she is not happy. She will also take a swipe
at your ankles if she's really annoyed. We ignore it or simply
tell her to cut it out. This is so upsetting to my neighbours
mom and sister that she has been told that Lila can not go with
her when she retires as they are planning on living together.
My neighbour is now looking to rehome Lila.
Would anyone on this board who lives in NOVA be interested in
adopting her? I feel like an experienced cat person would be
able to get beyond her interesting personality ( and fall in
love with the sweetie) which is so far preventing her from being
adopted. I have my neighbors permission to find her a home and
she comes with her full kit. Toys, food, litter, etc. PM me if
you are interested. I would much prefer this over my neighbor
taking her to the county shelter. She is a beautiful brown
tabby with cream and orange highlights.

After canvassing people we know we have reached out to our first
rescue. Lila's mom reached out to me asking if we would look
after Lila until the end of January. I said yes but privately
I'm like....I'm not sure I can last another week. im just
miserable with allergies. She reiterated her interest in us
rehoming Lila before she gets back so its time to get serious
about it.
I feel so bad because we love her but I clearly can't live with
her.

Hey. How do you feel about reaching back out to Lila's mom and
asking if she has someone else who can take care of her? Put it
out there as "We made the offer in good faith and I've felt
compelled to follow through on it, and I really DO want to help
so I hate asking this - but the reality is that I've developed
severe allergies to her breed and I can't do another two months
of this. We'll continue to try and help re-home her but is there
anyone else you could leave her with for now?"

I wish. Lila's mom knows the allergies are getting to me but
she has no other choice. She was trying to get her into the
local county shelter for several months prior to the trip back
home but they are full and can't take her. Mr. Ryder has been
taking over more and more of the responsibilities of keeping her
company now that we see that even this is too much for my
allergies. As long as he keeps pitching in we will get through
this.

Originally I asked if anyone in NOVA was interested but I think
Mr. Ryder would be willing to drive anywhere on the East Coast
to deliver her to a loving home.

cute photos for your consideration. I probably should have
posted these earlier as I know that selecting our next companion
is a very visual process.

Thank you Ani. Our neighbour who looked after the cats this
weekend just posted Lila's story to her FB. So hopefully we
will find someone through all this outreach.

Lila met her new adoptive mommy today. She has left for a trial
run to see if it will work out.
It was very sad and I cried. Although Laura adopted her 6 years
ago we never had to say goodbye. We could see her any time and
she often came over for the afternoon to visit before we
realized I was allergic to her. Many times I would knock on
Laura s door to say hi and Lila would make a beeline to our door
and we would let her visit for a couple of hours. I guess Lila
had two homes and two sets of parents for 6 years.
So today was goodbye for us if this trial run turns into a
permanent home.
