What's for Thanksgiving?
By: Queenie Date: November 9, 2021, 9:32 am

I don't have my assignments yet, so I don't know what I'm
bringing besides Death Pie.
What are you making?
I have an email in my queue titled "29 Healthy Thanksgiving
Sides" and I have no idea why I haven't deleted it. I certainly
have no interest in reading it!

We got green bean casserole and the mashed potatoes.
Youngest brother is hosting for the first time ever.
His GF's parents are coming too having never met us.
It is fixing to be a rough day for him.

I have not yet begun to plan this. Thanks for the reminder. Must
go home and discuss with Unicorn.

For the first time ever, I ordered Thanksgiving dinner! I will
still be making cranberry sauce to take with us, because there
was none as an option — heathens!
Creme brûlée bread pudding
Fennel and sage stuffing
Candied carrot medley
Balsamic roasted Brussels w/ caramelized shallots
Parsnip mashed potatoes
Plus my semi-healthy* smoky mezcal, jalapeño, and lime cranberry
sauce.
I know this is a hot topic today, but saying it anyway — we're
avoiding the unvaxxed extended in-law clan and heading to
explore Philly's museum and historic sites over Thanksgiving.
Plus all the vegan restaurants. Reservations and proof of
vaccination seems to be a requirement for dining out in Philly,
so yay!!
*I added that just for you, Queenie — I use only 1/3 cup v. the
1 cup sugar the recipe calls for because I like tart cranberries
:D And, despite what my delusional SIL thinks, that's the end of
my "health" cooking at Thanksgiving. Those mashed potatoes she
ooohs and awws over every year that I made with olive oil one
time and she declared the "healthiest choice!" had about 1/2 cup
olive oil per potato ... and I cooked 5# of potatoes. Not sure
that counts as healthy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That is horribly offensive. Who do they think they are?!
Thanksgiving is for indulging — pass the pies, stretchy pants,
and hand over those stuffing balls!

I’m between jobs the week of Thanksgiving. We are going to my
parents house but I do not drive past O’Hare on the Wednesday
before Thanksgiving for love or money, so we are driving up
early on Thursday.
On Wednesday, I got tickets for me and the kids to go to an
interactive Van Gogh exhibit. I never thought of this before,
but the Wednesday before thanksgiving is apparently a really
good time to go to a museum!

I’m on desserts and my brother just said he really feels like a
dessert with cherries.
I don’t feel like making a straight cherry pie in the fall. I’m
thinking about this:

I love all forms of upside-down cake. Sometimes I use peaches.
If I could get good tart cherries I'd probably make a cobbler or
clafoutis. Or both.
