I read his address to try and understand what he was trying to
       communicate.
Several points stood out, among them:
"Today’s critical theories and ideologies are profoundly
atheistic. They deny the soul, the spiritual, transcendent
dimension of human nature; or they think that it is irrelevant
to human happiness. They reduce what it means to be human to
essentially physical qualities — the color of our skin, our sex,
our notions of gender, our ethnic background, or our position in
       society."
I think that three of his main points were:
       1. Secular movements are not based on religion or spirituality,
which results in religion becoming a non-essential part of
       society.
       2. Morality can only derive from religion.
       3. Divisiveness is not the Christian way.
I disagree with pretty much everything that he said, but I think
it's worth reading his actual words to try to understand what he
       is actually saying.

Hey, buddy, you are overestimating the already wide reach that
Christianity has or SHOULD have. And that has always been your
religion's issue - how to co-exist in the same space and allow
others to believe something different and still get along. To be
fair, it's not a problem that only your religion has ever had.

To add some context, if you haven't been following the US
Bishops' attempts to dominate and control the women religious,
about a decade ago the US Bishops went after the nuns about
social activism hammer and tongs. Pope Francis patched things up
a bit. I don't agree with him but in this context Gomez looks
       like less of a lunatic.

I suppose if he wanted the criminal cabal he wishes to see rule
the world to hold greater sway, then he should be concentrating
on excising the awfulness from it. He literally does not have
the spare time to complain about this. His plate will be
over-full for the rest of his life.
       1. Religion is already a non-essential, I would even say
detrimental but that's me, element of society.
       2. Poppycock.
       3. Poppycock. Who's in and who's out is an essential element,
one might even say THE essential element of religion.

"Of course, in the Church we have not always lived up to our
beautiful principles, or carried out the mission entrusted to us
       by Christ."

allocution is only the first step of the plea deal, which we
       have not made with him.
       I will edit for him:
       --- Quote ---
       >

which is true, but not sufficient. He needs to list each crime,
       without excuse, admitting full guilt.
Now, as for ex(or)cising the awfulness from it, when its every
victim has been healed and recompensed, then we can discuss
       their organization's ever speaking again.
He can begin with the atrocities it has committed against the
peoples of Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, the Americas, and
       Europe.

I think it's important to note that it was Archbishop Gomez who
condemned President Biden's political stance on abortion
immediately after his inauguration. Not a welcoming move.
At issue is a statement issued shortly after Mr. Biden was sworn
in as the nation’s 46th president and signed by Archbishop Jose
Gomez, president of the U.S.C.C.B. Archbishop Gomez wished the
new president well, but he also used strong language in an
unusually lengthy statement to condemn the nation’s second
Catholic president’s support for abortion rights.
  HTML https://www.americamagazine.org/politics-society/2021/01/20/biden-cupich-gomez-bishops-239779
Archbishop Gomez is also the face of those in the church who
would deny President Biden, and other politicians, communion
       based on their political history.
It's hard to find any type of middle ground with bishops that
use theology and the receiving of communion in the church as
cudgels against individuals. The Pope himself countermanded
       this practice.
And so no, I don't find Gomez's words to be useful, or to be
building bridges, or to finding common ground. They are
designed to provoke and divide. I don't believe those are
effective strategies in times of great division and dissent.
