Not sure if people here are really aware of this, but there's a
whole extra product flow to this period of time - meaning this
month's worth of time right here.
Manufacturing in China primarily shuts down for 3-4 weeks for
Chinese New Year. This is a period of time where many of the
workers travel home to their families to spend time, and there
is no one running the machines at those factories to keep
additional product pumping out.
This has a lot to do with how Covid exploded out of Wuhan - the
workers travelled home all across the country, and brought it
back to factories that shut down again in an attempt to get it
under control.
So, they are working really hard not to let that happen again,
and I am not trying to be a harbinger of doom, but some of those
restrictions on top of the normal shutdown mean that hopes for
backlog and shortages that rely on production out of China
easing are more 2 months out than right now, even though the
ships from Port of LA have finally been unloaded and been able
to go pick up the backlog sitting on the factory floors. Because
backlog will be cleared... but normal flow is unlikely to
immediately fill in right behind it.

I hit "love" for this post because in the article, the two
authors of the cookbooks have hilarious and upbeat posts about
the cargo containers being at the bottom of the sea. Well
handled, with grace and aplomb.

Reason #100 I am *so* glad to be largely done with charity
direct mail. We were always rushing to get the kitchy packages
that mail in the spring done and off to the vendor back in
September-October ... while simultaneously working on end of
year fundraising :o
What's the priority? EVERYTHING!

Saltines. The kind I like best, in sleeves with fewer saltines
in each so they stay crispy. The supermarkets are often out,
although they are usually at Target but I'm not really near a
Target. ETA: Also any saltines at all.

Oh, that alarmed me. Whenever I have surgery or need to take
some medications, I need to have them on hand. My Target has the
original package. But my Ralphs (Kroger) has both types of
packaging. Of course, that doesn't mean it holds true for a
store nearby even in the same chain. I guess that's what makes
these posts so interesting.

It's such an odd thing. Come up to a space in a shelf and it's
....blank. Like no saltines at all. This was a few weeks ago. We
look for them for a related reason, when you're not feeling
great or tummy upset it's one thing that's easy to eat
