Peaches overload

[img][/img]Our peach tree produce about 4 bushels of peaches
this year. We've eaten raw peaches, had peach pie, and had maple
glazed roasted peaches with vanilla frozen custard. I have 2
quarts of the maple glazed peaches and 4 gallons of peach
quarters in the freezer. Next is to dry peaches because I'm out
of freezer space. I'm almost tired of looking at peaches.

I love peaches and here in Minnesota we don’t reliably get good
ones in the grocery stores. So I’m terribly jealous.
I’ll trade you my over abundance of leaf lettuce and Swiss chard
for a dozen peaches. I’ll toss in some cilantro for good
measure.

I’m pretty sure [member=17]AbidingDudev4.1[/member] would take
some off your hands in the form of a pie.
Congrats on your plentiful harvest. (Can you donate some to a
food bank or soup kitchen?)

I have yet to buy any peaches this year. They are expensive
here, and like [member=111]MidwestmikkiJ[/member] said, they're
usually not very good. I've learned that if they don't smell
really great, they will lack flavor - and for $1+ per peach,
it's just sad.
I did buy a carton of apricots last week, they were fine but not
wonderful. But the entire carton was the cost of 2 or 3
mediocre peaches so I was okay with that.

Yeah, the last times I bought peaches they weren’t good at all.
So disappointing. Meanwhile, oranges have been pretty amazing.
And the firm has been providing them for free in the pantry
lately. Win-win!

I'm in Georgia so peaches are plentiful starting in late May. We
usually get enough to eat and have a pie off the tree. This is
the first year is been so abundant. And it looks tired now.
Peach pie is my husband's favorite, and he likes pie in general
like AD does, so no peach pie leaves the house. If he likes you,
he may offer you a piece since I only eat one slice a season.
Berries are my weakness. [member=111]MidwestmikkiJ[/member]
leafy greens aren't tempting. I had leaf lettuce in abundance
until a week or so ago when it got hot and it bolted.
Raspberries now... I grow them but they don't do well here. It
gets too hot. Cucumbers will be the next thing I have too much
of. We've got two already.

hmmm. other peach thoughts... peaches & cream ice cream (I can
provide a recipe if you need one).
peach cobbler. peach matzoh farfel kugel with fresh peaches is
probably amazing! (that recipe calls for canned sliced peaches).
Um. Peach compote to go with hmmm... protein of your choice. My
brain/mouth is saying pork sausages.
Oops, my file finished saving. I will stick this in my brain
background to keep contemplating.
