A brief tutorial -- getting attached photos in correct
       orientation

People often post images that come out in the wrong orientation.
I decided to do a little experimentation, and my conclusion is
that there is data attached to the image that causes this. Here
is how to overwrite that orientation data.
At least on my computer (Windows 11), if I rotate an image 90
degrees in the directory view, it will look right on the screen
but when attached to a reply on this site it will still appear
on its side. If I instead open the image in an editor (Paint),
do the rotation there and save it, the image will look correct
on this site. Alternatively, if I rotate the image in directory
view, then open, save and close the image using the editor, the
image also remains correct. That saving is the key step. (Merely
copying the file and saving it using the directory functions
does not work.) In my examples attached, the image labeled
Screenshot is how things look in the directory. Because we are
only allowed 4 attachments, I have not attached the sideways
Original here. The images are labeled to explain how they were
treated. Labels may not be visible on phone.
If you're doing these manipulations on your phone, I can't help
you. My Samsung (Android) doesn't allow any flipping in a
directory view, so I can't test it.
