I occasionally rewatch a few classics. Some of them hold up
better than others. The original Raiders of the Lost Ark is
pretty fun. The Birds did not hold up well at all. I just
watched Roman Holiday again and gosh I still love that movie
even though it reads extremely dated to me.

Any of the Fred Astaire movies that are not disaster flicks (so
no, not The Towering Inferno)

Oh, jeeze, he WAS in the Towering Inferno. I hoped you were
kidding.
Didn't save enough of his pay to retire gracefully?

I think his agent talked him into it. I hope so. Or maybe the
script read better than it ended up playing out?

Earlier in the summer Mr and I went out to the coast, it was
supposed to be over 100 inland, so we thought we would cool off
out there. Since we had plenty of time and the scenery out there
is beautiful, we just drove around. One of the things we always
do is go to "The Tides" and get clam chowder. If the restaurant
is busy, we get take out from the deli and eat it in the car.
Either in the parking lot or we go park somewhere where we can
see the ocean. Anyway...
When they filmed "The Birds" they actually used two different
towns. There's the town of Bodega, which has the houses and the
white church with the spire and where "the town" part of the
film was shot. Then there is Bodega Bay, which has the Tides
Wharf, where they were holed up and the gas station caught fire,
if I'm remembering the movie correctly. I know The Tides had a
big part in the movie. That is actually on the coast. The town
of Bodega is inland about 10 miles from the coast.
The little white church with the spire is there and I swear, it
doesn't look like the town of Bodega has changed at all in these
what, 60 years. If you ever get a chance to see the Sonoma
coast, I recommend it.

And Union Square in The City has changed very little. Except, I
don't think a pet store would ever have been able to afford the
rents there.
I rewatch the movie mostly for the Union Square and Bodega Bay
scenery. Once they start with, you know, the birds, I'm pretty
ready to turn it off.

I love Roman Holiday! I still can't believe that was Audrey's
first feature film - she acts as if she's been doing films for
10 years.
