Grapefruit cake

Everyone does orange cake and lemon cake. I'm using Camp
Furlough and all the young, healthy arteries to taste-test a
grapefruit cake tomorrow. I haven't decided if I want to make a
glaze to top it or simply a LIGHT dusting of confectioner's
sugar.
I prefer not to frost cakes. Either the cake stands on its own
or it doesn't. I do occasionally do a glaze or a sauce.
Suggestions? Sadly it's red grapefruit juice (can't find yellow
grapefruit or grapefruit juice) so already too sweet vs zesty,
but I still want to try and make it work.

If you think it's already too sweet it'd be best to go with a
zestier sauce. Or nothing at all, not even a light dusting of
confectioner's sugar.

I was thinking of doing a lemon zest glaze. Maybe I can add
citric acid to either the glaze or the batter. I do have plenty
on hand.

Would adding zest from the grapefruit tone down the sweetness?

Probably, but all I had was grapefruit juice.
So - I added butter to the recipe (mistake #1). I also didn't
have it soft enough (mistake #2).
). So it didn't rise as much as it should BUT the flavor shone
through and the citric acid did it's job to make it 'sprightly'.
I'll try again next week. No butter!
I cheated and used a box cake mix. Substituted 1 cup grapefruit
juice for water. Added 3 tsp citric acid. Maybe I'll add 1/3 cup
whole milk plain yogurt to give it more loft.
I liked the flavor! It was just a bit dense (my fault).
