       E reader

I lost my ancient Kindle and am in the market for a new
e-reader. I have seen that they are a whole new game now, with
note-taking and app capabilities. I'm looking for one that
gives the option of being unlit or lit (with lighting color
options would be ideal) and where I could take notes and do some
drawing with a paper-like feel. I am looking at the Boox,
though they are on the expensive side. I'd like it to be easily
used with Libby (it seems like you can download apps on most of
them which seems like it would address that but I'm not
positive). Does anyone have an e-reader they recommend with
these features or feedback on the Boox Note Air4 or 5?

Younger Son gave me a Paperwhite Kindle (I think is its name)
for Christmas 2024 and I love it. You can change the tones as
well as the brightness of the screen. It's about the size of a
normal paperback book (though way thinner) and very lightweight.
Pretty sure you can't add apps, but notes may be possible.
OTOH...if you do want apps, getting a cheap tablet and adding
Kindle to it might be what you need. Btw, I can read books from
       Libby on my Kindle.
       Good luck!

The benefits of the kindle are that they are feather light, easy
on the eyes, rarely need charging, and provide a
       distraction-free device for book reading.
Other devices have higher “costs” on all four fronts (weight,
glare, battery life, distractions). In exchange, you’ll get more
functionality for non-reading activities - browsing, video,
       email/text, and other applications, etc.

Some years ago I bought a Nook and deliberately hose the model
that could be used for browsing the web. I almost never used the
functionality and over time it became obsolete. I loved the Nook
for reading, though. I’d still be using it except that it isn’t
compatible with Libby. So I went with a Kindle Paperweight which
I like a lot but isn’t quite as much like reading a book as the
       Nook is.
       Since I have a phone, an I Pad, and a laptop I don’t think I’d
ever buy another e-reader for anything other than reading again.
