Jesus take the wheel, Jojo would think they were named after
her.
We don’t have Checkers or Rally’s here that I recall, but their
fries are in the freezer section and are pretty good for frozen
and baked fries.
When it comes to fast food I like Arby’s because they have the
sliders which is just enough food with two sides (curly fries
and jalapeño peppers). Also, my kids are totally suckers for
slider sized sandwiches.
I want to like Arby's but I can't. The roast beef appears to be
made floor sweepings glued together instead of, you know, a
roast. And now they have that commercial about the steak and
cheese sub that has provolone cheese "and other magical melty
stuff" and I can't help but wonder what exactly is that made of?
I do like curly fries almost as much as I like waffle fries.
Anyway I think of Jojo every time I see Jojo potatoes and I am
here to tell you she would definitely add them to her list of
things that she will eat. They are sofa king good.

Animal style = mustard (put on the patty while it cooks),
grilled onions, pickles, and thousand island dressing.

Bugerville. Two words - truffle fries. Their offerings are
fresh, locally sourced, and the menu changes with what is
available seasonally. They have great sauces and tasty salads
too. I believe Burgerville is Oregon and Washington only.
I have no opinion about national fast food burger joints. I
liked Sonic, but for limeades and slushes.

I'm calling In and Out as local, as I think they're only on the
west coast, and Arizona (IIRC)
What I like best about them is their meat is never frozen, the
fries were whole potatoes 30 minutes before they became your
fries. If you get a chance to visit, ask about their unpublished
menu. Protein style has no bun and is wrapped in lettuce. Animal
style fries have cheese melted on top (and maybe grilled
onions?) I don't know what else is on their unpublished menu,
but it's definitely a thing.
And that is my contribution for both categories, as I haven't
been to a BK, McDs, Wendy's since In and Out came to town :-)
Just an FYI, 5 Guys advertises similar to In and Out, Fresh,
never frozen, etc. I haven't tried them because they are way
more expensive than I&O.
Ill fully admit this is very provincial and Midwest Nice of me,
but I find secret menus to be a turn off.
I don't mind a secret menu as long as it is ACTUALLY a secret
menu, reserved for family, friends, and long-time regulars. Not
anyone who walks in off the street and says "so tell me about
the stuff you make that you don't list on the menu for everyone
to order". Then it's just "Playing Annoying Games with Your
Customers"
In-And-Out was a staple of my teen and college years, and now my
family's. Just FYI, the "secret menu" is right on their
website! Everyone knows about it, and you can view it and order
from it. The name is just a holdover from the past.
But if you're not out here, there's no way you would know this.
:)

That right there. I've eaten at I/O once. The burger was your
basic mustard burger. The fries were half-cooked and inedible,
and no, I shouldn't have to know the secret password to get
edible fries. I've never been back.
I have a hard time finding a decent restaurant burger (i.e., at
least as good as the ones I fry up at home). Cenote on Medina at
Cesar Chavez delivers a very good one, but they aren't a chain.
Hut's on 6th Street used serve up excellent ones, but they are
no more, and the best, Mad Dog & Beans on 24th, has been closed
for decades.
Five Guys was pretty good, a little pricey. The other chains
don't even make the list of places I want to go. Honestly, if
I'm eating out, I'm generally not getting a hamburger.

I am definitely a fan of Smashburger, both for the burgers and
the garlic + rosemary "Smashfries". Because I can't eat cheese,
all those delicious cheeseburgers are not available to me. When
I lived on the east coast, I particularly liked the Smashburger
BBQ bacon cheeseburger (minus cheese, of course) because they
include haystack fried onions as one of the toppings.
Burgerville is very good, I am still learning their repertoire.
And I have found a few combos at 5 Guys that I think are worthy
of eating, too.
In Corvallis, the Squirrel's tavern Squirrelburger is a local
legend. (It's made with beef, not rodent!!)

Controversial opinion: In N Out is overrated. It tasted great
when I was a tourist, but now that I live here? Not so much.
For pure nostalgia reasons, I'll say best regional is
Whataburger. I make sure to hit it up every time I go back to
TX.
But I'll also put out a vote for BurgerIM, which is nationwide
but also not. It kind of circles the country, completely leaving
out the midwest.

Highly overrated. Oddly, Whataburger is exactly what it reminded
me of, minus all the options and the onion rings. My wife is
crazy for W-a-B.

Not a fan of chains. For locals…
Seattle: Metropolitan Grill Happy Hour. Drinks overpriced, food
balances the difference.
Boston: Bristol Bar at the Four Seasons. Outrageous price,
worth every penny.

I loved Smashburger's veggie frites when we had a SB here.
My favorite local burger is the University Drafthouse's "Greek"
burger, which is made with ground lamb.
Five Guys are meh burgers and fries. I think their big draw is
that they give you so many fries, so college kids can fill up
(relatively) cheaply.
Whataburger will get my vote for the least unpalatable burgers
among standard chains.
