       Voyager 1’s Long-Dead Thrusters Fire Again After 20 Years – Just
       in Time

       What an engineering victory, totally badass.
       Michael, who really was an engineer more than an oceanographer,
       would have loved this story.  It made me think of him and smile
       to read early this morning and wish I could send it to him.  I
       thought of the many very interesting discussions we had about
       all kinds of science nerd stuff over the years, but especially
       the conversations we had about space.  He was fascinated by
       space exploration/space travel and marveled at the engineering
       it took to get these things done.  Those discussions absolutely
       lit him up!
       He owned an autographed photo of Gene Kranz, the flight director
       who oversaw the moon landing and oversaw getting the Apollo 13
       astronauts home safely.  It lived in his office and was an
       anniversary gift from his wife.

       Heh!  I've got a signed copy of Gene Kranz's autobiography,
       Failure Is Not an Option.  Besides being his story, it's a good
       point-of-view history of the manned space program from 1960 to
       the last Apollo flight.
       Hurray for the Voyagers!
