Gilbert (cat) has cancer
By: Heron Date: April 22, 2025, 3:28 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Lymphoma (digestive type). He has two tumors: one intestinal,
one on his left kidney.
We're not putting him through lots of vet's visits for chemo.
He's twelve. He's getting as much wet food as he wants (even if
it's at 5 a.m.). I've connected with a couple of vets who'll
come to our place to put him down, when the time comes. We don't
know how long that'll take.
My husband says he trusts me to determine when Gilbert's had
enough. This is the first time I'll be making this decision. Not
fun, but necessary.
The good news is, our landlord said if we decide our other cat,
Ginger, is in need of feline company after Gilbert's gone, he's
okay with letting us get a bonded pair of kittens or young cats.
Our previous leases stated "two cats only." We know we'd have to
do slow introductions, etc.
So far, Gilbert's doing about as well as can be expected. I'm
trying to keep the focus on him, rather than how tough it's
going to be to lose him.
If I may be so bold, I'm more interested in sympathy, than
advice, at this point. If I'd like some help, at some point,
I'll let you all know.

I am so sorry to read the sad news about Gilbert this morning.
I have so much empathy for you as this is such a hard thing to
go through. My thoughts are with you and with Gilbert. He is
such a beautiful cat.

I am so sorry, this is such hard news to get about a beloved
companion. Sending love to you and Gilbert. Give him some extra
pets for me.

You have all the sympathy you want.
I think all of us pet people have been there in some form or
another. Enjoy his love and companionship for as long as you
can, but I’m sure you’ll know when it’s time, and you’ll do
right by him.
He will always be in your heart.
It’s so wonderful that your landlord will allow additional cats,
when you’re ready.

with you is joyful and comforting. <hugs>

I'm so sorry to hear this sad news! Sending much sympathy and
hugs - it's very hard to see a pet declining.

I'm so sorry to hear about Gilbert. He's a real cutie. Sending
mojo and sympathy for you. It's a crap sandwich, I know, so lots
of sympathy on that score.

I'm so sorry and sad for you. Lots of personal sympathy coming
from me since my Romeo had that same cancer. Give Gilbert tons
of love and cuddles.
